Latino superstar and stand-up comedian, Carlos Mencia, who makes audiences laugh each week on Comedy Central's "Mind of Mencia" with his original blend of political, man-on-the-street, physical and sometimes racial humor will headline on March 23, at The Palms newest hotel addition, The Pearl.

Both provocative and thought provoking, Mencia takes comedy one step beyond socially acceptable and uses his point of view to express to diverse audiences the absurdity and humility found in our everyday lives. Tickets are $50 and $75; call Ticketmaster 702-474-4000.

Don "Mr. Warmth" Rickles, who has starred in Las Vegas showrooms longer than any other performer, has signed for a series of exclusive appearances at the Golden Nugget. The much-honored comedian will launch his 48th consecutive year as a Las Vegas headliner when he appears for the first of three 2007 engagements, March 22 - 24. This engagement marks 20 years since Rickles first appeared at the Golden Nugget in March 1987 for a six-year run. His other appearances will be May 25 - 27 and Oct. 5 - 7.

After two successful weekends of shows last October and November, including an unforgettable "Gypsy" performance, Liza Minnelli will return to the Luxor Thursday, March 29 - Saturday, March 31 to again showcase her renowned talent and to celebrate her birthday. Minnelli has won every major entertainment accolade including an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy, making her part of a select group of performers who have won entertainment's top four awards.

The boys in plaid are, once again, are heaven-sent to perform their final performances of "Forever Plaid-The Heavenly Musical Hit!" in the Gold Coast Showroom through April 1. The show featuring '50s and '60s music, fabulous harmony and ensemble playing, and comedic banter, opened at the resort in January 2005 and has been a constant hit. The Shops in Desert Passage at the Aladdin offer a more comprehensive shopping experience with the introduction of four new merchants, Journeys, Carlo Ferre Leather Collection, La Parfumerie and Portofino Gallery.

Journeys is a destination for trendy footwear and accessories. Carlo Ferre Leather Collection features both men's and women's leather jackets as well as fashionable purses, luggage, briefcases, men's hats and fur coats. La Parfumerie touts the finest men's and women's fragrances from top designers at discount prices. Portofino Gallery is a one-stop shop for collectors and art lovers alike with imported fine art and collectables from all over the world. The store yields paintings, dinnerware, hand-carved display cabinets, ceramic and bronze statues and even chandeliers.

Desert Passage is a 475,000-square-foot retail / entertainment complex currently undergoing renovations to its interior and exterior for its transition into the revamped Miracle Mile Shops - a move to create synergy with the adjoining casino's re-branding into the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino. Desert Passage features 170 specialty stores, 15 restaurants and live entertainment.

Rock influencers Tool are set to play The Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms in the venue's opening month of performances, March 15 - 16. These concert dates will be one of the band's first U.S. dates following a successful overseas run. Led by Maynard James Keenan, Tool continues to corner the market on alternative, hard-rock with their dark, theatrically charged anthems. Forming in the early 90s and being a part of the post-grunge movement, alternative rock band Tool landed a spot on the popular Lollapalooza tour, which propelled their career. After years of successful albums, followed by a hiatus to explore side projects, Tool returned with a vengeance in 2006 and released "10,000 Days" receiving both critical acclaim from the music industry and equally important support from the fans.

The Las Vegas Hilton is now home to the largest hand-painted mural in Las Vegas, with the 128' X 56'10" image of Hilton headliner Barry Manilow on display on the property's main tower facing south. The mural was installed over a five-day period using a grid system to prepare the image and three painters using brushes and rollers to complete the finished mural on Feb. 3.

Sky Tag, the company responsible for the mural, specializes in spectacular images in metropolitan areas. It digitally prints large building wraps; paints super-sized supergraphics; and designs the largest murals in the United States. This is the biggest superstar mural the company has painted in Las Vegas.

Manilow opened "Music and Passion" at the Las Vegas Hilton on Feb. 23, 2005, and in March 2006, the resort extended his exclusive long-term engagement through 2008. Manilow, will return to headline at the Las Vegas Hilton Feb. 13 - 17 and 21 - 24,

Manilow recently teamed up with world-renowned saxophonist Dave Koz and recorded "Moon River" on Koz's new album. Manilow's Madison Square Garden shows featured Koz collaborating in person with Manilow. Could there be a repeat when Manilow returns to the Hilton?

Loews Hotels is the new owner of the former Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort. One big change the new owners have made is closing the resort's 8,000-square-foot casino, which happened last November.

Other changes at the 493-room property with 45,000 square feet in meeting space include adding flat-screen TVs to every guest room, upgrading the hotel lobby and renovating 13 suites. The corridors have been redone and the sushi restaurant was renamed Marssa. It was previously called Japengo.


Resurfacing and improvements to the 2.44-mile, 12-turn track for the Vegas Grand Prix event scheduled to race through the streets of downtown Las Vegas, April 6 - 8, is progressing well. About 80 percent of the street improvements required for the race are completed. The Vegas Grand Prix will be a three-day festival of speed and entertainment featuring rock concerts, a championship boxing match, celebrity poker tournament, an Easter egg hunt and the internationally televised 2007 series opener for the Champ Car World Series.

Having starred in previous productions of the Riviera's "Crazy Girls" show, wild woman Carole Montgomery will return to familiar turf when she appears at the Riviera Comedy Club for seven nights beginning Monday, Feb. 18. Her one-woman, stand-up act is a sexual send-off leaving no stone unturned. She probes every aspect of boy/girl relationships in graphic detail. Montgomery will headline for seven nights, beginning Monday, Feb. 19.

Montgomery has been making people laugh since 1981. She has been featured on the XXX-rated comedy CD, "Extreme Comedy, The Women," and made numerous television appearances including "Politically Incorrect" with Bill Maher, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and Showtime's "Comedy Club All-Stars 6."

As part of the series of '3121 Presents' special performances inside 3121, R&B artist, Musiq Soulchild, will perform live Wednesday, Feb. 28. Soulchild has been honored by many respected institutions in the music industry and had four Grammy nominations. Soulchild will release a new album "Luvanmusiq" this spring. The "Le Reve" show at Wynn Las Vegas will be closed from March 5 - April 5. During the month, the Le Reve Theater will be renovated and seating capacity will be reduced from 2,087 to 1,600 with extra perks planned for VIPs.

Named 2006 NBA Finals MVP and 2006 Sports Illustrated "Sportsman of the Year," Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade will host an official NBA All-Star Party on Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. at rumjungle located in Mandalay Bay. The evening will feature live performances by Rich Boy and Slim Thug, and a fashion show by Rasjudah.

Sammy Davis Jr., an extraordinary entertainer, will be honored by the Las Vegas Walk of Stars on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at 11 a.m. The site of the ceremony will be in the Le Bistro Room in the Riviera. His widow Altovise Davis will accept the honor on his behalf.

Monday nights are "Spoil u Rotten" Ladies Night at rumjungle in Mandalay Bay. The night is devoted to ladies with DJ Big Dee and G-Minor and a live radio remote from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Ladies are VIPs and drink free. For information, call 702.632.7408.

Just in time for National Weddings Month, which is Feb. 1 - 28, the La Bella Wedding Chapel has opened an office at the Las Vegas Hilton, where the chapel will be built in the North Tower in the next two months. The chapel owner is also building an outdoor wedding gazebo on the Hilton's third-floor pool deck and will offer wedding packages in Benihana Village. Entrepreneur and fashion designer Nicky Hilton will return to the PURE Nightclub runway on Thursday, Feb. 15 with her spring "Chick" fashion line and premiere her brand new couture fashion line "Nicholai."

Rumors are continuing that Harrods out of London is planning a mega-project on the Strip.

Michael's gourmet restaurant will be closing at the Barbary Coast on Feb. 19 to prepare for a move in April to South Point, Michael Gaughan's new resort on the far south end of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Britney Spears has been in Las Vegas recently working on a new album.

Arizona Charlie's on Decatur, which opened in 1988 and was one of the city's first "neighborhood" casinos, has management planning on returning its 500-seat bingo parlor back into an entertainment and banquet facility and building a new 8,000-square-foot bingo room. The theater that used to showcase an eclectic series of performers such as Dr. Hook, Leon Redbone and Lovin' Spoonful became a bingo hall in May 2000.

Sandy Duncan is performing in "The Glass Menagerie" at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theater at 8 p.m. Feb. 15 - 17 and at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 - 18. Tickets are $25 general admission, call 702-895-2787.

Shoe designer Donald J Pliner and The Public Education Foundation have partnered up to sponsor a fundraising event in association with Pliner's upcoming appearance in Las Vegas. The event will be held on Thursday, March 15 inside the Donald J Pliner boutique at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Pliner will make a personal appearance from 1 - 4 p.m. to introduce his spring/summer collection and meet and greet his customers. Musician Travis Barker will host his Famous Stars and Straps fashion showcase at PURE Nightclub on Tuesday, Feb. 13. As his friend and resident DJ, AM heats up the dance floor on the wheels of steel, the club crowned America's Hippest Hotspot starts MAGIC week right, showcasing the line's hottest styles of the season.

Skin Spa Las Vegas, a medical day spa, is giving GRAMMY music presenters and performers a Non-Surgical Eye Lift treatment valued at $1,200. For the second year in a row, Intermix "set up shop" at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. This year, Intermix partnered with The Premiere Photostudio, a venue set up by "Premiere Magazine" to take portraits of Sundance's most exciting casts and set up a mini-boutique with more than 500 units of winter merchandise. Among the many celebrities spotted were Gina Gershon, Jill Scott, Parker Posey, Zooey Deschanel, Famke Jansen, Heather Graham, Sienna Miller, Drea de Matteo, Teri Hatcher, Anna Faris, Winona Ryder, and many more. The Intermix store in Las Vegas is located at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace.
