As promised, here are more Cool, Close Cultural places to visit while Mother Nature has the heat turned up.
UNLV has the Barrick Natural History Museum on
campus where you view Southwest Native culture and pre-Columbian Latin American collections ranging from Guatemalan costumes and Mexican
masks to native Southwest reptiles. A Xeriscape Garden established in 1988 welcomes visitors at the entrance to the Museum. Cost? IT'S FREE!!
Open Monday through Saturday; check hours at 895-3381. Parking is by permit, so call 895-1300 to order a parking permit from the UNLV Parking

The Las Vegas Natural History Museum is a wonderful place to take your Kids and their Grandparents where a variety of nature's creatures soar from the ceiling, and rise from the floor. Marilyn Gillespie, the Museum's Director, has spent years developing ties with major museums for exceptional "on loan" exhibits. |
Presently, "Savage Ancient Seas" is available through September 24. Huge shark jaws and full skeletons of big, scary looking fish with $5 names are enhanced by touch stations and illustrations. Besides the special exhibit here for a limited engagement, permanent exhibits stepping back in time range from dinosaurs of every size to an adult giraffe, and lots in between including marine displays and a hands-on exploration room especially for kids of all ages! While you are in the area, the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, just across the street is another exceptional chance for staying cool on a family outing. Over 100 hands-on exhibits are kid and adult friendly, featuring art, science and humanities. This museum also presents traveling exhibits, offers special programs and entertainment, Tuesday through Sunday year-round with discounts for children and military. NEAT NEVADA NOTES: Did you know within NEVADA State lines we live among an estimated 314 mountain ranges all angled northeast-southwest? Boundary Peak at 13,141 feet is the winner; Mt.
