WORLD PEACE DAY ANTHEM & CAFE PANERA

June 4th was a very special day in Henderson and for fashion mogul Fred Nassiri as his "Love Sees No Color" World Peace Project was unveiled to a swarm of dignitaries and media type people. Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson presented Nassiri with a proclamation acknowledging him for his efforts to help world peace and naming the day as "Love Sees No Color" Anthem for World Peace Day.

Nassiri is a very successful businessman who felt a song was needed to help restore World Peace. So, he wrote a special song and funded the project to produce a DVD to be submitted to UNICEF, with the proceeds going to children who are victims of war and poverty, and also to the United Nations. The video was shot in Red Rock Canyon during April and features singer / songwriter and producer Nassiri along with seven school children representing seven different nations and a chorus of 50 children ranging in age from 6 to 12.

The lyrics to the chorus reflect Nassiri's beliefs most eloquently: "Love sees no color, no race, no religion. We are the same as the rays from the sun. Love sees no color, no race, no religion. Only through love can we live as one."

The projects co-producer is writer / producer Lawrence Jordan, an internationally acclaimed 20-year award winning director of television specials, live TV events and concert films. Jeff Lester, who owns Big Picture Productions and is Susan Anton's husband, directed the video.

Was invited the other afternoon to stop by and visit with a bunch of friends at the new Bakery-Cafe Panera near the Gallery Mall. It's sorta located in the southeast quadrant of the huge complex and looks out on Sunset Station. Let me tell you gang this is some of the best bakery goods this writer has tasted in a long time. They have just about every type and flavor of bread ever produced from fantastic Sourdough to Focaccia, to a marvelous Multigrain (I brought a loaf home with me) to Kalamata Olive. Overall I would say they bake some 17 different type of breads fresh daily. They also, of course, serve some great sandwiches and every day they have a wide variety of home made soup: Thursday for example is Broccoli Cheddar, Low fat Chicken Noodle, French Onion, Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice and my personal favorite Low Fat Black Bean. They also bake 10 different Sourdough Bagels. And what is nice nothing is too expensive.

The exact address is 605 Mall Ring Circle and the phone number (in case you get lost) is 434-4002.

THIS AND THAT QUICKLY: Terry James is currently in the Comedy Club at the Riviera Hotel through Sunday with Kenny Rogerson taking over this Monday... The Belagio has created something new and different for those who are planning to get hitched (married). "Terrace of Dreams" is for those couples envisioning a super spectacular wedding and will take place on the Terrazza di Sogna overlooking the spectacular lake and water show. The one-of-a-kind experience can be reserved by selecting any of Belagio's Wedding Chapel Packages ranging in price from $1,800 to $15,000 and then upgrading to this special for an additional $1,800. Hey isn't love "grand?"...
Comedian Hypnotist Anthony Cools will make his Las Vegas Strip debut at the Stardust Hotel in a series of weekend gigs starting June 19-21. The Canadian-born showman has a very adult themed show and will appear at 11 pm. in the 900-seat Wayne Newton showroom... Newton is now performing at the Stardust through the 14th... David Copperfield opens in the 740-seat Hollywood Theatre at the MGM Grand Thursday, June 12 for a 14 day run, doing two shows nightly at 7:30 and 10 pm. with a Saturday matinee at 3 pm...
Just got off the phone with Ann Margaret who will be appearing at The Orleans June 19-22. Next week I will write what we talked about. Should be quite interesting so be sure to tune in... The Righteous Brothers are currently performing through the 15th with this Monday dark... Stopped by to see Bill Acosta at the Suncoast Casino the other evening and was blown away with his new show. It was fantastic and as usual his Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra tributes are the best. He has a brother and sister act in his show that perform the lost art of tap dance like Sammy and other greats used to do. I say lost art because you do not see it being performed much anymore on a stage. I will do more on Connie (age 18) and her brother Jay Fagan in another column...

Well, gang, that's about it for this week. I'm outa here!
