DINNER WITH MAGIC & "POPERA"

Impossible Magic," starring Steve Dacri, voted 2008 Close-up Magician of the Year (his close-up work is unbelievable and reminds me of the great, late Jimmy Grippo), made his debut this past weekend at Six Tables Restaurant, 2110 Rampart Blvd. What really made this engagement unusual for Dacri is that he was performing his magic in front of only 30 people! Yep, you read it right, there are only six tables available in this restaurant and the cost is $300 per person. And, believe it or not, all six tables were filled for both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Of course everyone got a six course Gourmet Dinner, champagne and their choice of at least four main courses. Such a deal! Dacri will be back again this coming Saturday and Sunday, so gather up your favorite person (and a credit card) and head for Rampart. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and reservations are required by calling (702) 256-2060.

A little background on Mr. Grippo: I first met him when I was associated with former Heavyweight Champion of the World, Joe Louis. Grippo was an avid boxing fan and eventually ended up with his sleight-of-hand act at Caesars Palace, thanks to Ash Resnick (he was a casino executive at the time). Jimmy worked the Bacchanal Room exclusively, and when a fight was in town (this was in the `60s and `70s) he was always called upon to do something special for the press conferences. One unusual thing about Mr. Grippo - he never learned to drive a car and went everywhere by taxi or limo. He was a wonderful man!

The Las Vegas Tenors (I still call them the Four Tenors) still have a number of special tickets for Las Vegas residents available. These are the regular $40.00 tickets, which with proof of residence, you can purchase for half-price. The Tenors will be performing again at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel, Sunday, June 1st.with show time set for 6 p.m.

There will be no special guests for this outing, but they will be putting in a few new songs just for the occasion. I mentioned last week that a new face, Chris Coyne, will be appearing with the founders of the group, Bill Fayne (father of the group), Bobby Black and Teddy Davey are the three originals (Mark Giovi is the fourth) who will be on stage with Coyne. Chris has an extensive resume and is currently performing as Master of Ceremonies and Lead Singer in the long running revue, "Folies Bergere," in the Tiffany Theatre at the Tropicana Hotel.

The program for Sunday is titled "POPERA," a mix of the classics, pop, rock, swing and Broadway as only the Tenors can, along with some of their most requested songs such as: "You Raise Me Up," "The Prayer," "Moondance," "Nights in White Satin," "Nessun Dorma" and a new medley of music made famous by The Beatles.

Tickets, priced at $40 and $53.64 (which includes a meal), and are available by calling the Hilton Box Office, (702) 732-5755.

The Supreme, Supreme Ms. Mary Wilson (she resides in our little village) traveled to London a couple of weeks ago, for the Grand Opening of a very special viewing of the famous "Supreme Gowns," inside the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum. The event is titled "The Story of the Supremes." Over the years Ms. Wilson, maintained her original performance gowns, and would purchase complete sets of the famous gowns when she heard a gown was for sale. Her vast collection of gowns are available for just such an occasion as what took place in London. The London display, consisting of more than 76 costumes, includes many one-of-a-kind gowns. Ms. Wilson reported that it was a huge success with thousands of fans turning out for the opening. She also attended numerous fan club parties during the visit.

THIS AND THAT QUICKLY: Good buddy Stephen Sorrentino informs me that he has donned a producer's hat for an exciting salute to the Superstars of Latin Pop Music. The 90-minute, non-stop musical production hits the stage at Texas Station next week on Friday, May 30th at 8 p.m. It features an eight-piece Latin Orchestra and best look and sound alike tribute artists: Enrique Iglesias, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin. Tickets are $24.95 and you still have time to purchase a ticket_ Just a reminder that "Super Summer Theatre" returns for its 33rd season with a great play, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." The first performance will take place Wednesday, June 4th at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, beginning at 8 p.m. It's quite an experience, if you're new to our little village (Las Vegas) - you sit on grass and watch the performance in the cool of the evening (bring a jacket as it can, and usually does, get cool after the sun goes down). Most people pack a picnic dinner, wine and blankets to sit on. Chairs are available for rent, and you get it all for only $10. Now that is a deal!...

Well, gang, that's about it for another week. I'll be watching the Indy 500 this Sunday morning, then the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 following that. It'll be a long day, but I love it!

I'm outa here!
