KELLY CLINTON, RACING SCHOOLS & CINEVEGAS

This week's column will have a bunch of little things that I've sorta forgotten to write about.

You've read about Kelly Clinton in my column as well as others. We all agree, she is one heck of a talent. Her last gig was at the Suncoast in December, where she worked the big room every Wednesday. This Friday (Jan.11), Clinton returns to one (she has a few) of her roots, The Bootlegger, for a fun evening. Kelly will kick it off at 10 p.m. and you can expect a lot of her talented friends to stop by, say hello and even perform. It'll go until at least 1 a.m., just like this town used to do in the "Good Ol' Days,"...

Kelly Clinton

Those were the days my friends. I would suggest reservations for this very special night. Call The Bootlegger at 736-4939 and tell them Norm suggested reservations.

Another fine entertainer will be at the Bootlegger this coming Sunday (Jan. 13), Carmine Mandia, who is part of the wonderful "Shades of Sinatra" show, will be doing his "Tribute to Bobby Darin," beginning at 8:30 p.m. Mandia will be accompanied by Ned Mills at the piano. Incidentally, the "Shades of Sinatra" show will be at the Suncoast Casino this coming Wednesday evening and is sure to generate another SRO turnout. They are absolutely fabulous - another Kelly Clinton creation. This girl sure can spot talent.

I have not personally visited the new Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch (SMMS), located just 45 miles from our little village near Pahrump, but from what I've been told, it has become very popular among those who love speed. The track just recently completed construction of a new facility for the Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School operations. The new building is dedicated exclusively for the Corvette Driving School and includes storage space for the school's growing fleet of 23 C6 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes.

The track has a new Web site up and running, www.springmountainmotorsports.com, and it now has enough space, what with the new buildings, to expand its Radical Racing School and its Lotus Performance Driving School programs. The new 8,000-square foot clubhouse, now under construction, will include a viewing station, spa area, Jacuzzi and a full kitchen. Memberships are still being offered, for a limited time, and it's not on the cheap either - private driving instructions start at $500. Just remember, you get what you pay for. And, knowing how to drive correctly is worth a lot more than $500. For further info check out the Web site or call 800-391-6891.

The CineVegas Film Festival has teamed up with the Clark County Library District to present "CineVegas From the Vault," a new screening series highlighting films that have either premiered or been shown over its ten-year history. The screenings, which are free to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Clark County Library on the first Thursday of every month during 2008. Films which will be featured over the months include: "Apart From That" from the 2005 festival; "Windy City Heat" and "Mitchellville" from the 2004 festival.

"We are very excited to team up with Las Vegas and the Library District on this new screening project, as we want to give locals the opportunity to see past festival films, that just might be difficult to find now," said Mike Plante, associate director of programming for the Festival.

The 10th Annual CineVegas Film Festival will be held June 12-21 at the Palms Casino Resort, right here in Las Vegas. Each year the festival highlights the most exciting offerings from up-and-coming filmmakers and visionary veterans, in-depth celebrity tributes and world premiere films set against the backdrop of our city. For more information on CineVegas, call (702) 992-7979 or visit www.cinevegas.com.

Here's a little information we can all use when flying out of our wonderful McCarran International Airport. There is now another low-cost option when it comes to long-term parking. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) offers a deal of up to a week's parking, with transportation to and from the airport, for just $2.50. The RTC transfer terminal, at the corner of Gillespie Street and Sunset Road, offers about 100 parking spaces free of charge on a first-come, first-parked basis. You must, however, notify on-site security officers. You then ride the bus (Route 109) to the airport for $1.25, and when you get back from your trip, do the same thing and, voila you save a bundle. According to my info the trip takes about 10 minutes.

Well, gang, that's about it for this week.

I'm outa here!
