The weather cooperated this time out for Las Vegas magician / comedian Mac King, who when he isn't trying to break a Guinness World Record, headlines every afternoon in the Improv Theatre at Harrah's Hotel on the strip. In 2003 he attempted to break the record of "The Longest game of telephone" but got rained out.
The game consists of a bunch of people (the old record was 564 participants) sitting or standing and whispering to each other until the final whisper is given to a judge. In this particular event King whispered first to Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller who then passed the secret whisper on to the next person in line. The first whisper was "Mac King is a comedy magic genius." Now, what makes this so interesting is that King had predicted what the final whisper would be, had it sealed in an envelope and locked in a briefcase prior to the event.
A total of 614 people signed up to participate in the stunt. Among those who joined in the fun were Harrah's headliner Clint Holmes, Monte Carlo headliner Lance Burton and singer / hostess of TV One (and channel 19) "Vegas Live" the beautiful Sheena Easton.
David Walch, with the Nevada Department of Weights and Measures verified the number of participants, which got underway at 11 am. at Harrah's Carnival Court. It concluded about an hour later with Oli Lewis on stage with Mac King receiving the final whisper. Lewis representing the Guinness Book of World Records, unlocked the briefcase, opened the envelope and verified the final prediction: "Macaroni cantaloupe knows the future." How King came up with that one we'll never know? The event will be formally submitted to the main office of Guinness in London.
"It was a lot of fun playing a kids game and getting all these people out here to play along," King said. "It didn't hurt that Harrah's gave out free gaming chips either!" King takes the stage twice daily, Tuesday through Saturday, at 1 and 3 pm. in the Comedy Cabaret with tickets priced at $16.95 plus tax.

My friend and one-hell-of-a racecar driver, Brendan Gaughan has finally fulfilled his greatest dream: signing a contract with a top notch racing team to compete in NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series in 2004. He signed a two-year deal with Roger Penske who also fields Dodges for former NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Rusty Wallace and Ryan Newman. Brendan will be sponsored by Kodak and will be competing for "Rookie of the Year" honors, of which he was honored with in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2002. His New Orleans Racing Team will continue to field a truck in the series, with as of now an un-named driver, and he'll continue to field a car for driver Scott Lynch in the series formerly known as NASCAR Winston West. Gaughan joins another Las Vegan in the Big Show, Kurt Busch and his 18 year-old brother Kyle. Kyle will be racing fulltime in the Busch Series and occasionally in the Cup Series in 2004. Incidentally "The Boys of Thunder" will be at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway beginning Monday Jan 26 for four days practice with the public invited to sit in the grandstands for free and watch. Jeff Motley of the speedway said most of the big guns would be here for the practice sessions.
