I came to Las Vegas in 1959 after covering my first Academy Awards, returned from '72 through '85 and again in '97. I attended the 6th Annual Old Timers dinner, October 7, for the first time and saw many folks that I have not seen in some time, plus other survivors. Boulder City resident Bill Hess sat at our table (I am an avid reader of his column). Governor Kenny Guinn stopped by to say "hello"; that is his trademark, saying "hello" to everyone and shaking their hand. My favorite retired maitre'd Rudy Bath said "hello" as did Joe Delaney and Ross Mitchell (former Vic Damone aid). Sasha Seminoff and his famous violin serenaded us all with Sonny King having 'em eating out of his hands. The wrap up from Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt and her Blackie simply stopped the show. You can reach Blackie at their Bootlegger Eatery which has moved to 7700 Las Vegas Blvd. So. 702-736-4939...

Call (702) 794-3261 for reservations at the Embers or any of the other fine-dining restaurants (Seahouse, Ming Terrace, Ribhouse and Pizza Palace) on the Fifth Floor Dining Plaza of the Imperial Palace, center-"Strip"...

The entertainment industry lost many wonderful people recently. My own superstar TV director John Harder, who directed more than 500 thirty-minute shows for me; legendary boxing trainer Eddie Futch, who was 90; 41-year-old Vanessa Sardelli, daughter of Nelson and Vicky Sardelli; Chicago Cubs TV producer Arnie Harris; 89-year-old Seymor Heller, Liberace's manager; and Steve Cherry, son of "Band of Gold" singer Don Cherry, who perished in the Twin Tower tragedy...

Tropicana's Legends Hall of Fame honored The Smothers Brothers, Rose Marie, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, the late Jimmy Durante (his award was accepted by Margaret O'Brian and Sonny King) and last, but not least, world-wide entertainer Freddie Bell...All kinds of flags, banners and flag merchandise are currently available in town, call Rana Goodman at (702) 734-7446, for a run down of product and sizes...

Keith Straus will fly in to MC the Jeremy Starr Show October 26 and 27 at Sam's Town Hotel and Casino... Here is a puzzle for you movie buffs, go see "Don't Say a Word" and let us know if you can find out how the bad guys know about the numbers that Michael Douglas' patient has locked in her memory... We didn't find it, can you?
