On Saturday, June 22, a dear friend of more than 40 years passed away, Eppie Lederer, better known to her fans as Ann Landers. She and my late wife, Gina, were very good friends, two of the most elegant ladies to grace both Las Vegas and Chicago... The passing of long time friend Rosemary Clooney took the nation by surprise. She was always treated royally here...

A limo picks up and drives Ginger to the Tropicana Hotel to host the $10,000 Chicken Challenge, where customer lines are long to see the newest star on the "Strip" as she scratches out The Challenger. Admission is free to this Tic-Tac-Toe game hosted by Ginger, the chicken...

The hottest new spot to cool off this summer is right on the sidewalk in the center of the "Strip!" The Imperial Palace has recently opened Tequila Joe's Frozen Daiquiri Bar, just steps inside the front door. From Strawberry Daiquiris and Pina Coladas to "T.J.'s Octane" and "Patriotic Passions," Tequila Joe's bartenders mix the coolest frozen drinks in 12-, 20- and 46-ounce souvenir-like cups. Take a break from the heat at Tequila Joe's Frozen Daiquiri Bar, right on the sidewalk, center-"Strip," at the Imperial Palace...

Engelbert Humperdink slips into the MGM Grand July 18 followed by Paul Anka July 29 and Cher August 9... My dear friend, Burt Reynolds, is telling show biz stories at the Orleans July 11-14 with Tony Orlando coming in July 19-21... The best kept secret in town is Fielding West at the Bourbon Street Hotel...

Harvey Korman and Tim Conway return to the Hilton August 8... Stratosphere's "Viva Las Vegas," with Elvis impersonator Bruce Mickelson, is doing good business... Breck Wall's "Bottoms Up" at the Flamingo is as good and as fresh as when it debuted in 1964...

Catch "The Tribute to Frank, Sammy, Joey and Dean" nightly at 7 p.m. (except Wed.) at the Greek Isles. Music and comedy brings back memories! Word-of-mouth is hot for this new full-version of the Rat-Pack-themed show which features a talented cast and full orchestra. Definitely worth a look see - comes with dinner too!
