With a little push at age 14 from Duke Ellington himself, Cookie Watkins set off on a singing path that now spans two decades and leading her center-"Strip" Las Vegas as the one and only Tina Turner in "Legends In Concert" at Imperial Palace. Having studied classical music at the Settlement Music School, Temple University and the Manhattan School of Music, Cookie turned to popular music when she realized how long it would take for her career to peak in opera. Today, her tribute to Tina Turner is "Simply The Best," as she joins other superstars such as Elvis, The Temptations, Tom Jones, Celine Dion, and Michael Jackson, twice nightly, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m., except Sundays, in "Legends In Concert," only at the Imperial Palace. I asked Dorothy Vinton, Bobby's mom, how she wound up on stage with him. She replied, "he saw me showing my granddaughter a few steps and he said 'why don't you do that on the show'." She loves the standing ovations too.
