Just when you think you have heard and seen
it all, you get an invitation to return to Harrah's for a visit with Clint
Holmes. You are being given the opportunity, once again, to be carried away
into a stream of wonderful vocals and fantastic music by one of the great
talents of today.
Harrah's threw a giant party the other
evening for its star. The celebration was to recognize three things: the naming
of the showroom after its star, announcement of a new contract extending his
run through 2006 and Clint's annual revamping of his musical presentation. But,
to be honest with you, every night is a party when you attend a Clint Holmes
performance, because it's designed to make one feel you're seeing and hearing a
brand new edition of a show for the very first time. His show, a never-ending
series of music, motion and emotion, allows him to reach out to his audience
with his rich voice, energy and an incredible range and sense of timing.
Everything he has learned over the years, from many mentors which includes Bill
Cosby, Joan Rivers and Don Rickles is right out there on that stage.
This is a man who believes in God, family and
giving 110 percent to his profession. He has been given many awards over the years,
but one of his personal awards is being recognized by his peers. He was
recently inducted into the Las Vegas Legends Hall of Fame and has been named
"Entertainer of the Year" by numerous publications. Another thing, it did not
just happen overnight folks. It has taken a number of twists and turns to
arrive at the pinnacle of where he stands today.
In plain English this "is a fantastic musical
presentation by an unequaled artist!"

From the moment the band, under the direction
of Holmes' long time friend and musical director Bill Fayne, strikes its first
note to the final note some 90 minutes later you are in for a special treat.
Clint has had many mentors and heroes over his lifetime. One of the foremost
was the late entertainer (who incidentally opened the showroom Clint is
working) Sammy Davis, Jr. Holmes grew up in the small town of Farnham in upper
New York. He is the son of an English Opera Singer, Audrey, and an
African-American jazz musician, Eddie. The two met when his father, a U.S. soldier,
was stationed in England during World War II.
His show today is a mixture of every style
known to man. The show starts out smartly with "While the City Sleeps" goes
smoothly to "I Gotta Be Me" and then Clint shows his versatility with an
outstanding mouth percussion number that is out of sight. There are original
songs spread throughout, including a couple of songs from a musical he wrote
which is set to open in Chicago later this year. Another thing about this boy
singer is that he has surrounded himself with some of the finest musicians
obtainable including the fantastic voice of Janien Masse. And he lets them show
off that ability with solos and featured bits.
About midway through the show Clint shows his
mother's influence by opening up those lungs to sing opera followed by a new
version of "Blusette." Then he and Ms. Masse combine to do a selection from
"West Side Story" followed by "Tonight", "Something's Coming" and then a
beautiful "Maria." All together you will hear about 20 plus songs presented by
a super showman.
The Clint Holmes show is presented nightly,
except Sunday, at 7:30 pm. For reservations call (702) 369-5111.
