In the wake of the recent American tragedy, hosts Gary Campbell and Connie Ross welcomed performances of patriotic tunes from some very talented artists on the national radio and television show "Backstage Live" from the center-"Strip" Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino.
Gospel-singer Tamula Browning brought tears to everyones' eyes with her incredible rendition of "Amazing Grace" to close out the first hour of the show. Browning can be seen at the Bellagio's Allegro Lounge four nights per week with the group "Boy Katindig." With a style best described as sultry diva, Browning performed a few other tunes for the "Backstage Live" audience, giving them a taste of her smooth vocals and warm personality.
Singer Jeannie Brie also sang a tribute piece, closing out the show with "America The Beautiful."
Artist/author Dorothy Rice dropped in to talk with Gary and Connie about her new book, "Las Vegas With Love." The book is a collection of her stunning watercolors that capture the diverse assortment of people, places, architecture and lifestyles that make up one of the premier cities in the world. Rice recently received the key to the city from Mayor Oscar Goodman and, just before arriving at "Backstage Live," completed a book signing, attended by Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt, at the Las Vegas Art Museum. An accomplished model and actress, Rice always returned to her canvas and painting, her first true love, as she's often seen setting up an easel on sidewalks, streets and other byways to create on-the-spot watercolors.
Taking a quick break from the Imperial Theatre stage, Johnny Fortuno, who portrays Ricky Martin in "Legends In Concert," stopped by to talk about his role in the popular celebrity-tribute show. You can catch him "Livin' La Vida Loca" twice nightly, except Sundays, at 7:30 & 10:30 p.m. in "Legends In Concert," along with tributes to other superstars such as Ritchie Valens, Liza Minelli, The Temptations, Elvis Presley and more. For more information or tickets to "Legends In Concert," call (702) 794-3261.
