Everyone is always talking about how many magicians perform in Las Vegas and there are indeed many. However, in this issue of Entertainment Today you will find 17 shows starring comedians, and that's not counting shows with comedy feature acts! Amazing, isn't it. Comedians, well known or on the rise, can be every bit the escape from reality as magic and Las Vegas glitz.

You can watch an audience enter a show room strangers to one another, thinking about themselves and their lives, about the last hand they played or the handle they pulled and in no time they are among friends laughing about a comic's observations on life, love and our everyday foibles.

As someone who has been involved in the comedy world for more than 15 years, I have seen the best and probably the worst comedy has to offer. Each time I attend a comedy show I still find I forget what might have worried me that day and just sit back and laugh! What a prescription for a hard day at the office or a loosing streak that has us down.

Check out ET's show guide because during any given week, you might have the opportunity to see a live performance from Ray Romano, star of "Everybody Loves Raymond," gentle giant Louie Anderson, prop comics extraordinaire Amazing Johnathan and Carrot Top, controversial George Carlin, the infamous Pauly Shore, funny lady Rita Rudner or funny man Jay Mohr.

You might check out one of Las Vegas' several comedy clubs including The Comedy Stop at the Trop, The Improv and The Riviera Comedy Club and laugh with the next sitcom star on the horizon or enjoy any of the talented comedy hypnotists in town whose job it is to make fools of your friends.

There are comedy ventriloquists including Ronn Lucas and Michelle LaFong, comedy magicians including Mac King's "Comedy Magic Show" and Fielding West's "Comedy, Tricks and Naked Chicks" and comedy productions shows like "Bottoms Up," "Tony & Tina's Wedding," "The Scintas" and "Viva Las Vegas." Whichever comedy show you choose, you're bound to feel better after a good laugh. Because, LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE for all that ails us.
