Four-time Grammy Award winner and world-renowned entertainer Bette Midler will bring her 40-city Kiss My Brass Tour to the MGM Grand Garden Arena for the first time since January 1997 when she performs on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004. Tickets are $75, $175 and $250 plus taxes and applicable service charges; call Ticketmaster at 702-474-4000.

Midler, hitting the road for the first time in four years, will perform the hits and characters that have made her famous as well as selected songs from her recent release, "Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook," on Columbia Records. The album teamed her again with her original piano player and musical director, Barry Manilow. Midler has sold more than 14 million albums over the course of her career.

Sam's Town will present legendary Hawaiian singer Don Ho with his daughter Hoku at Sam's Town Live! on Dec. 20 and 21. The family showcase will mix their popular songs with Christmas carols. Tickets range from $24.95 to $29.95 plus tax, call 1-800-897-8696.

After college in Massachusetts, Ho served a five-year stint in Texas as an Air Force jet pilot. He eventually returned to Hawaii and organized a group of musicians to entertain at Honey's, his parents' tavern in Kaneohe, and then moved his act to Duke Kahanamoku's in Honolulu, where he garnered national attention.

Ho's daughter Hoku, who will open the show, is the only one of his offspring to follow him into show business. She signed a record deal during her freshman year of college.

The National Finals Rodeo will kick off on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Fremont Street Experience with the 17th Annual Downtown Hoedown that is free and open to the public. The five city block party will feature the hottest country acts performing on two state-of-the art entertainment stages and the Country Western light and sound show.

The lineup on the 1st Street Stage will include Brandon Silveira performing from 3-5 p.m., Chad Austin from 6- 8:00 p.m., and Pinmonkey from 9-11 p.m. On the 3rd Street Stage, the lineup will highlight The Speaks Brothers from 3- 5 p.m., Bering Strait, a group from Russia, from 6- 8:00 p.m. and 19 year old Jessica Andrews from 9-11:00 p.m.

The Fremont Street Experience Holiday Festival will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the 50' holiday tree that will be on display through Dec. 28.

The Rockin' Holiday stage show with dancing, holiday music and fun for the whole family will happen nightly from Dec. 9-30 on alternating stages at 6:10, 7:10, 9:10 and 10:10 p.m.

Photos with Santa Claus will take place on Dec. 12 from 7-9 p.m., Dec. 13 and 20 from 2-4 p.m., and Dec. 14 and 21 from 7-9 p.m.

In addition, the Fremont Street Experience Holiday Light and Sound Show displayed on a canopy with the 2.1 million lights will happen nightly through Dec. 30 at 6 and 7 p.m. For more information, call 702-678-5777.

The Tropicana will acknowledge the holiday season by releasing a limited edition $5 Christmas chip will be available at the casino cage on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003. The Christmas chip is the 6th and final chip to be released as part of the 2003 commemorative chip series.

Tribute artist Jay Willee Carroll will perform a Willy Nelson Tribute concert in The Hideaway Showroom inside the Silverton at 10:30 p.m., Dec. 7-9. Featuring the legendary country artist's biggest and best-known hits, Carroll's event is free and taking place during the National Finals Rodeo. For information, call 702-914-8557.

Le Cirque at Bellagio recently received the AAA Five Diamond Award, allowing it to join the ranks of now three-time recipients Picasso at Bellagio and Renoir at The Mirage. With the addition of Le Cirque to the AAA Five Diamond family, Bellagio becomes the only resort in America to house two Five Diamond award-winning restaurants under one roof.

With nearly 19,000 restaurants evaluated each year, less than one percent earn this esteemed award of excellence. Le Cirque is the third restaurant in the MGM MIRAGE family to earn the distinction. Picasso with Mediterranean cuisine and Renoir with French dishes made history in 2001 when they became the first two Five Diamond restaurants in Las Vegas history.

The newest Five Diamond hotel is the Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas. It joins repeat Five Diamond hotels... Bellagio and the Four Seasons.

The upcoming WBC Super Featherweight championship fight between champion Jesus 'El Matador' Chavez (40-2, 28 KOs) vs. Erik 'El Terrible' Morales (45-1, 34 KOs) is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Ricardo's, the popular Mexican eatery was a local staple since 1979. About a month ago, the chain closed its last location at the MGM Grand, where it had been operating since November 1997. The MGM's plans call for a path that will lead monorail travelers through an area that was partially occupied by the restaurant.

Wedding guests are getting the option to get married on TI's Pirate Ship or within its Oasis Paradise.

The Enchantment Wedding Package at Treasure Island is back. Couples can create a memorable event by marrying on the newly redesigned pirate ship located in Sirens' Cove. This ship, which overlooks the Las Vegas Strip, is part of the new outdoor production, "The Sirens of TI." The ship's captain will unite couples while the invited guests view the vow exchange from the adjacent patio. The Enchantment Package ranges from $1,999-$2,999 plus tax.

In another corner of TI located in a secluded, private area adjacent to the pool, lies a little bit of paradise with tropical palms, Gardenia trees and lush foliage. The new Oasis Wedding Package at TI offers a contemporary and beautiful outdoor venue with all of the romance of a tropical paradise featuring a gazebo and archway, decorated with an array of elegant florals lining a 30-foot aisle. Spike TV will present the first "Video Game Awards" (VGAs) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The unprecedented and non-traditional awards show, celebrating the accomplishments of the past year in video 'gamedom' while also looking to the future of games in 2004 and beyond, premieres on Dec. 4 on Spike TV. Awards will be given in 16 wide-ranging categories and feature no presenters or acceptance speeches. Spike TV, the first network for men, is available in 86 million homes and is a division of MTV Networks.

Nextel Communications Inc. has signed an estimated $60 million deal to brand a four-car monorail train and create a 15,000-square-foot branded station by the convention center.

Caesars Palace will feature a 60-foot plastic Rocky Mountain Pine Christmas tree with 216,510 twinkling multicolored lights, more than twice as many lights as the real Christmas tree in New York's Rockefeller Center. The five ton tree's 1,000 branches and lights will be on display from Dec. 1 to Jan. 5.

At Ethel M Chocolates in Henderson, the Botanical Garden is lit up for the season with more than 250,000 holiday lights. The annual display is open to the public and free to view.

Eve Quillin, at 75, is a 32 year Las Vegas resident and columnist/reporter for many publications including Senior Spectrum and Bingo Bugle. She has written her first book, "My Life In Shorts," featuring 69 short stories written by a lady who lived through the great Depression and the 1930's dust bowl in a house with no utilities. Her life includes marriage at 13, three children by 17, and a successful cosmetology career.

The book's forewords are by BB King and Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy. Horn wrote the foreword personally and bought the first 12 copies, right off the press, just days before his accident. Quillin will be holding a book signing at Walden's in the Fashion Show Mall on Dec. 6, from noon to 3 p.m. It retails for $14.99.

Sorry to say that Claude Trenier, longtime leader of The Treniers, passed away. He was 84. His group, one of the first black acts to perform on the Strip, went on to become one of the longest running acts on the Las Vegas lounge circuit.

Singer Dennis Bono has moved the live taping of his one-hour radio and television variety show featuring celebrities and entertainers to "Sam's Town Live! inside Sam's Town on Boulder Highway. Tapings are scheduled at 2 p.m. for Dec. 3, 11, and 18. The general public is invited to join the 350-member studio audience and admission is free.

Sammy's Woodfired Pizza will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Las Vegas Toys for Tots program from Dec. 1-19 at each Las Vegas location. The nearest one to the Strip is at 3900 Paradise Road about a mile away. Customers who participate will receive a complimentary certificate for an appetizer to use during their next visit.

The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort at Lee Canyon located about 45 miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas has been purchased by a Utah company best known for hosting ski and snowboard events during last year's Winter Olympics.

The opening of magician Steve Wyrick's new show at the Aladdin has been postponed until Dec. 11 due to the process of converting the showroom.

At the Tropicana two restaurants will be closed part of December; Pietro's from Dec. 8 - 26 and the Tuscany Italian Cafe from Dec. 17-25. The Comedy Stop will be dark from Dec.15 - 25.

The Epicurean Club will hold the "Party of the Year" scholarship fundraiser four-course dinner at Paris on Dec. 5. "Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance," The Platters, Cornell Gunter's Coasters, Beary Hobb's Drifters and Jean Francois will entertain. Tickets are $300, call 702-248-3312.
