WHAT's NEW IN LAS VEGAS

Public House, the newest addition to locally owned Block 16 Hospitality, is a contemporary tavern that will open at the end of the year in The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian.

Machine Guns Vegas (MGV), the world's first luxury gun lounge, will open early next year at 3501 Aldebaran Avenue just off Spring Mountain Road near the Strip. MGV will combine the plush, high-energy appeal of a Las Vegas ultra lounge with the thrill of a high-tech firearms experience. The attraction will offer guests the chance to shoot a variety of firearms – from modern machine guns and assault rifles to some of the most famous firearms from World War II -- in a safe, contemporary atmosphere. No alcohol will be served at Machine Guns Vegas and it will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., visit machinegunsvegas.com.

Joystixx, which is a new gamer's arcade and sports bar with an array of pool tables, console video gaming and classic arcade games, opened at Hooters. It has VIP booths fully equipped with built in flat screen TVs and operates Thursday through Sunday nights until 3 a.m.

MICHAEL JACKSON FAN FEST COINCIDES WITH TOUR

The first ever estate-authorized Michael Jackson Fan Fest™, Dec. 3-14, will offer visitors a more in-depth look into Michael Jackson's life and feature an opportunity to meet three of his brothers, Marlon, Jackie and Tito on Sunday, Dec. 4. The three brothers will be at Fan Fest at noon for an exclusive Q & A session.

The exhibition showcasing never-before-seen personal items and career memorabilia coincides with the kickoff of the extended “Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour” stop in Las Vegas, Dec. 3-27. The Michael Jackson Fan Fest will only be in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay and will not travel to any other tour stop. For a photo gallery of featured items, visit www.michaeljacksonfanfest.com.

Fan Fest will also feature a Q & A with Joseph Vogel, author of “Man in the Music: The Creative Work and Life of Michael Jackson,” on Dec. 9 and 10. Vogel is the author of two other books and writes about popular music and culture for “The Huffington Post” and “Pop Matters.”

Each Fan Fest session will last four hours in Mandalay Bay's Bayside Exhibit Hall. Tickets can be purchased in conjunction with the show or individually starting at $35.

JOHN LEGEND RINGS IN NEW YEAR AT THE PALMS

John Legend will ring in the New Year with a performance of his smooth, R&B sound at the Pearl at the Palms on Saturday, Dec. 31, at 9 p.m. Tickets range from $99 to $254.

Legend has sold more than five million albums worldwide and won five Grammys. His most recent release “Wake Up!,” which is a collaboration with The Roots, was released in September.

OSCAR's GETTING SET TO OPEN AT THE PLAZA

Oscar's, the new steakhouse named after former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, will carry the tagline “Beef ∙ Booze ∙ Broads” and open next month in the downtown Plaza's iconic dome. The restaurant will hire six “Broads” to visit with customers during dinner. These attractive women will be reminiscent of the iconic showgirls who accompanied the former mayor to events during his tenure. The open “Broad-casting” call will be Nov. 17 and 19. In addition, Simpatico, an Italian speakeasy and grill, will be adjacent to the steakhouse.

PALAZZO HOLDS STILETTO DASH TO BENEFIT CHARITIES

On Dec. 3, hundreds of women will have the chance to strap on a pair of high heels and run to help out two charities. The Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Stiletto Dash presented by The Palazzo will be hosted by “Dancing with the Stars” host Brooke Burke and held inside of The Palazzo, the day before the Zappos.com Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon that will be the largest nighttime running event in the world.

Starting at 5 p.m., the 50-yard dash will begin at the hotel's grand lobby and finish in the casino near Laguna Champagne Bar. Close to 500 participants are expected to compete in multiple heats for a $5,000 first-place purse and other prizes. Participants will receive an exclusive gift bag and be invited to a post-dash party.

Race weekend will include a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Dec. 2-3.

NOVE ITALIANO OFFERS ITALIAN THANKSGIVING COOKING CLASS

Nove Italiano's Executive Chef Geno Bernardo at the Palms will offer an intimate and special cooking class at noon on Saturday, Nov. 19 called “My Italian Thanksgiving.” The holiday class will have Chef Geno putting a twist on traditional Thanksgiving dishes and a five-course feast. The class will finish with everyone sitting down to try each course paired with wine. Cost is $75, call 702-942-6856.

CHEF BATALI HOLDS OUTDOOR COOKING DEMO

Renowned Chef Mario Batali will perform a live cooking demonstration on Black Friday, Nov. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. by the outdoor gondolas at The Venetian as part of The Venetian and The Palazzo's Winter in Venice. Batali, who is the chef and owner of Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, B&B Ristorante, and Carnevino Italian Steakhouse at the resorts, will prepare his signature pizza in a wood-burning oven.

‘FANTASY’ TO HOST 2012 CALENDAR LAUNCH PARTY

The ladies of “Fantasy” will be signing and giving away their 2012 calendar at the LAX Nightclub at the Luxor on Saturday, Nov. 19. All ticket holders to Saturday's “Fantasy” show will receive complimentary admission to the party with their ticket stub.

HENDERSON HOSTS 10th ANNUAL OFF-ROAD RACE AND FAN EXPO

Henderson will host the 10th annual TransWest Ford Henderson 250 off-road race, the final race of the season for the Best in The Desert Racing series on Saturday, Dec. 3. The event will feature three races throughout the day with the green flag dropping at approximately 6:15 a.m. for motorcycles, quads and UTVs, as well as 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for cars and trucks, just 35 minutes south of Henderson, off Interstate 15. Spectator viewing is free at two main areas, located near the start/finish line in Jean, Nev.

This year's race is expected to attract more than 20,000 people and over 150 race teams, representing 30 professional and sportsman classes maneuvering through a challenging three-lap, 80-mile course.

On Friday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Henderson will host a free Off-Road Fan Expo in the Water Street District that will feature the TransWest Ford Henderson 250 Tech & Contingency, which allows fan to watch official race inspections, as well as see pit crews working on their vehicles. In addition, there will be race vehicles on display, driver meet and greets, an automotive and manufacturer vendor village, and hours of musical entertainment.

TOY DRIVE PROVIDES TICKETS TO ALL-STAR JAM

By visiting one of the seven Las Vegas Star Nursery locations through Dec. 4 and dropping off unwrapped toys at a minimum $10 value for donation to the Children's Advocacy Alliance, you can receive tickets to the Toys for Tickets All-Star Jam. The offer is good for one ticket per toy with a four ticket maximum to the special concert scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. inside Ovation at Green Valley Ranch.

BODIES AT THE LUXOR OFFERS SMOKEOUT SPECIAL

In support of the 36th Great American Smokeout, BODIES…The Exhibition will display and let guests hold a real smoker's lung as well as offer a special discount to anyone who pledges to quit. On Thursday, Nov. 17, visitors who drop a full or partial pack of cigarettes into the “commit to quit” box on the Atrium Level at Luxor between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. will receive a two-for-one discount to The Exhibition and join the approximate 5,000 guests who have decided to get healthy and throw away cigarettes at The Exhibition during the last three years.

WORLD SERIES OF POKER WINNER IS FROM GERMANY

A 22-year-old student and professional poker player made history this month by becoming the first German resident to win the largest and richest poker tournament on the globe – the World Series of Poker Main Event.

Pius Heinz, of Cologne, became the second German to make a Main Event final table. His first-place finish earned him the World Series of Poker gold bracelet and $8,715,638. Heinz bested a total Main Event field of 6,865 players from 85 different nations in ages ranging from 21 to 91 to capture the title.

Staszko, who collected $5,433,086 for his second-place finish, also made history as the first player from the Czech Republic to make a final table.

HENDERSON HOLDS WINTERFEST CELEBRATION

WinterFest – An Old-Fashioned Christmas Delight with a Victorian era theme will be held Friday, Dec. 9 from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10 from noon – 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. Admission is complimentary.

Events will include: the arrival of Santa Claus; the official Henderson Christmas tree lighting; carols by school choirs; horse-drawn carriage rides; strolling carolers, a confectionary display of gingerbread houses; pony rides; storytelling; craft bazaar; carousel; the Festival of Trees; a Christmas village with miniature scenes from New York to Chicago and San Francisco; the Henderson Symphony Orchestra performing “Sounds of the Season;” and more. WinterFest will culminate with an evening light parade at 5 p.m.

VEGAS STREATS IS MONTHLY DOWNTOWN EVENT

Vegas StrEATs, which began last March, is a monthly event held in the Fremont Street East District across from the El Cortez featuring food vendors, local artists and retailers. StrEATS is free to attend and runs from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m.

LAKE LAS VEGAS OFFERS HOLIDAY SKATING RINK

The floating ice rink attraction at The Village Lake Las Vegas will operate Nov. 18-Jan. 29, 2012. Hours will be 3-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday-Sunday, school vacation days and holidays. The unique platform floats atop the lake and holds up to 75 skaters at a time. The cost with skate rental and a full-day pass included is $15 for adults and $12 for children.

More New Year's shows are being announced every week now. Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band will perform on Dec. 30 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Tickets are $86.15 and $138.45. The Commodores will celebrate at the Eastside Cannery on Dec. 31. Tickets range from $64.95 to $84.95. Hip-hop Drake will start off the new year with a Jan. 1 show at the Hard Rock Hotel. Tickets are $95.50 and $101.

Reality star Rob Kardashian now famous for his challenge on “Dancing With The Stars” will host the blowout New Year's Eve bash at Tryst Nightclub at Wynn on New Year's Eve.

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick will celebrate the New Year with a view of the fireworks from the rooftop of the new Chateau Gardens at Paris and host the official New Year's Eve bash. The Kardashian sister and her long-time beau recently finished filming season two of E!'s hit show, “Kourtney and Kim take New York,” set to debut this month.

“Peepshow” headliner and star/co-executive producer of E!'s realty show “Holly's World,” Holly Madison will celebrate her birthday with friends at the Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris on Saturday, Dec. 3.
