The Ramada Express recently completed three new projects: the Coronado Room, Victory Plaza, and a north parking lot.

The Coronado Room is a new special events room taking its name and design theme from the famous Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. The new social space is actually the bandstand enclosed and it overlooks the resort's Town Square from a second story perch. The room can handle up to 150 people and it connects to the Pavilion.

The Coronado Room is wrapped in windows offering impressive nighttime views of the twinkling lights of Town Square and daytime views of the pool area and grassy Town Square.

Victory Plaza has been designed as a multi-purpose event site and party space in a park-like setting with trees, grass, benches and Victorian lighting. The site stretching along the area between the casino building and Casino Drive can accommodate 450 people, bleachers, bands, barbecues as well as settings with tables and bar service.

The north parking lot was necessitated by an In and Out Burger and Mobil service station being built on the former parking lot along Casino Drive.

The three new projects are complemented by two additional renovations at the Ramada Express. The Santa Fe Room, connected to the Roundhouse Buffet, and the Ventana Room, where the Train Store was located near the Steakhouse, will offer additional social space for meetings, special events, and private parties. For information, call the catering manager at 702-298-6344.

This year's River Flight 2000 is scheduled Oct. 27-29. Balloonists will ascend each morning... Friday, Saturday and Sunday... at 7 a.m. to compete in a dog and rabbit race, river touch down, and other aerial fetes. The starting point will be the Laughlin Events Site located at the corner of Big Bend Drive and Edison Way.

On Friday and Saturday nights at 6 p.m., the balloons will glow like lanterns when they are tethered and turned into luminaries.

The Edgewater is commemorating the event with a gaming chip available at the Main Casino Cage. The souvenir chip features the Edgewater name and two colorful hot air balloons, one highlights the Edgewater's trademark Kokopelli, along with the event and denomination of the chip. Each chip comes in a $5 denomination with only 500 minted in the limited numbered River Flight 2000 edition.
