The Avi Hotel and Casino has opened 155 new guest rooms bringing the total number to 456 and plans to open an eight-theater movie complex on Oct. 10.

The new multiplex cinema will also include a new arcade, a gift shop, a Panda Express restaurant and a Nathan's Hot Dog franchise.

Future expansion plans for 2004 and 2005 include moving the marina, building more rooms, adding a convention center and expanding the casino and beaches.

Country superstar Kenny Rogers will headline the Flamingo Amphitheater on Sept. 27-28, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $40, call 800-435-8469 or 702-298-5111.

In a successful career that has spanned nearly five decades, Rogers has made 61 albums, including his current project tentatively titled "Back to the Well," and sold over 105 million records worldwide. He is known to millions as "The Gambler" for the role he played on the mini-series of the same name.

Last year brought many accomplishments for Rogers, including a successful 13-city tour of Canada with Diamond Rio and Rebecca Lynn Howard, the opening of his photography exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for the second time (the first was in 1986), and a debut at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry.

Additionally, he has co-written and/or influenced three children's books, become an accomplished photographer, compiled three photography books, and displayed his photos in three major exhibitions in Nashville and Las Vegas.

Harrah's is making the following changes to The Earl Turner Show. Due to the Oct. 3-4 performances of "Chippendales The Show" in the Fiesta Showroom at 10 p.m., Turner will perform at 7 p.m. both nights. His show will be dark on Oct. 31 due to the performance of country music legend, George Jones, at 8 p.m. in the Rio Vista Outdoor Amphitheater. Additional dark dates are Oct. 11, Nov. 27-29, Dec. 6 and Dec. 12-27.

It will be ladies night out at the River Palms on Sept. 19 and 20 when "The Men of Playgirl" perform in the River Palms Event Center. Tickets for the 8 p.m. shows are $20, call 1-800-835-7904. Don Laughlin's Riverside will feature "The Hollywood Men," male dance revue on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25, call 1-800-227-3849, ext. 616.

The Baja Blue After Dark late night action at Harrah's includes a DJ playing top dance music, flair bartenders and specialty beverages. The Friday and Saturday nightclub opens at 11 p.m. There's a $5 cover charge for the gentlemen, which includes one free house cocktail. There is no cover fee for ladies, who also receive one free house cocktail when served from 11 p.m. until midnight.

The River Palms has changed the hours of operations for the River Palms Cafe and the Late Great Night Buffet. The River Palms Cafe is now open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. The Late Great Night Buffet is operating from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.

The Ramada Express proudly continues to present its free Thanks for the Memories Speaker Program. Hearing incredible stories from remarkable people is a rare opportunity but a weekly reality at the American Heroes Museum of Memories.

Perry DeGracia, a 15 year old during WWII, was a courier for the underground guerrilla movement in the Philippines when he was captured by the Japanese. He later served in the U.S. Army as a detachment commander for the Green Berets in Vietnam. He'll be speaking on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, Bob Worthington will do the honors. In 1957, he dropped out of Dartmouth College at the age of 19 to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps. and the next year served in combat in the Middle East. He left the USMC in 1959 to return to college. After graduating, he entered the Army as a Second Lieutenant. Until 1969, he was an Infantry officer serving two tours in Vietnam as a combat infantry advisor to the Army of the Republic of Viet Nam combat infantry units. Worthington's specialty was counter-insurgency, counter-guerilla warfare. He was fluent in both French and Vietnamese. A captain on his first tour, he was a major on his second. By 1975, with a Master's degree in Counseling and Psychology, Worthington was an Army clinical psychologist and research scientist. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1981.

The Sunday and Monday "Tailgate Parties" at the Riverside are sponsored by Miller beer with the games shown on multiple screens throughout the Losers' Lounge. Admission is free and weekly gifts and cash prizes are awarded throughout the games.

The Monday Night Football Party at the Golden Nugget is co-sponsored by Budweiser. These free admission parties in Tarzan's Lounge begin at 6 p.m. They include airing of the games on multiple screens, contests, giveaways and stadium-style food specials. Among the prizes to be won are La-Z Boy recliners and surprise gifts.

A Grand Prize drawing for a trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii next February will be held the last Monday night game of the season. The drawing drum is purged after each Monday night game, and all entries will be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing at the Golden Nugget.

The Monday Night Football games are shown free on multiple screens in The Boiler Room at the Colorado Belle.

The Avi features Monday Night Football Parties in the ArrowWeed Lounge with the game shown on big screens, food and drink specials, contest and prize giveaways including a halftime football toss. Admission is free.
