Lake Las Vegas Resort will host a live performance by Grammy-award winning artists, The Beach Boys, on Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. in a tropical setting complete with a white-sand beach. Tickets are $49.95 plus tax, call Ticketmaster at 702-474-4000

Lake Las Vegas Resort will anchor its 52 x 76-foot floating stage near the Reflection Bay shore, where concert guests will be able to relax on beach towels as The Beach Boys fill the air with their well-known and loved American youth anthems. Lake Las Vegas Resort is a premier residential and resort destination situated on a privately owned 320-acre lake located 17 miles from the Las Vegas Strip.

The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide and performed more concerts than any major rock band in history. On July 4, 1985, The Beach Boys made a Guinness Book of World Records achievement by playing to an afternoon crowd of one million in Philadelphia and doing an evening performance for over 750,000 people on the Mall in Washington.

Mark your calendars, the Annual Aviation Nation - the Nellis Air Force Base-Las Vegas Air Show is planned for Nov. 13 and 14. This year's two-day weekend event featuring Air Races, the USAF Thunderbirds, Aerobatic Demos and Vintage Warbirds will honor the accomplishments of America's military and celebrate the 60th anniversary of D-Day with special aerial and ground displays at Nellis Air Force Base.

In addition, Boyd Gaming Corporation will be sponsoring a gallant tribute to the men and women veterans of World War II. This year's event is expected to draw between 125,000 and 150,000 spectators.

To illustrate the history of American aviation and salute the accomplishments of American aviators, nearly 150 aircraft - from a replica WWI Sopwith Strutter to the newly commissioned F/A-22 Raptor strike fighter - will be on static display, along with award-winning vintage warbirds representing every era of aviation.

Aviation Nation is open free to the public starting at 8 a.m. and air shows begin at 9 a.m. Parking and roundtrip transportation is available at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway located across the street from Nellis AFB. For information and details, visit www.nellisairshow.com.

Ethel M Chocolates will hold its 11th Annual "Light the Night" Cactus Garden experience with more than 250,000 holiday lights illuminating the Ethel MO Chocolates Botanical Cactus Garden from Thursday, Nov. 18, until Jan. 3, 2005. Lights will shine daily from sundown to 10 p.m. and the event is free.

Nevada's first botanical garden features more than 350 species of plants and opens at 8:30 a.m.

While at the garden and factory site, located at Two Cactus Garden Drive in Henderson, which is a 20 minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip, visitors are invited to see how Ethel M Chocolates are made by hand. Early holiday shopping is also available with gift selections from the 2004 holiday line.

When people travel they still want to check their e-mail and carry on with business via the Internet. According to Pyramid Research, based in Cambridge, Mass., the number of U.S. hotels offering Wi-Fi has exploded from 500 in 2002 to 1,000 in 2003. Overall, the number of Wi-Fi users is also rapidly growing, from 12 million globally in 2003 to an estimated 707 million in 2008.

The Imperial Palace is the first Strip property to implement full-property wireless access. The center-Strip resort has contracted with Hotel Wireless, Inc., and its sister company Hotel Kiosks, Inc., to integrate wireless connectivity throughout the property. The company built a full-property wireless solution for the Imperial Palace, including complete Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) access and five Internet access kiosks for guests without a laptop.

The Tropicana has also debuted new wireless Internet technology that is available in several areas of the hotel's Meeting & Convention Facility and in various locations around the five-acre garden swimming pool area.

Solutions at both properties require a nominal fee.

All next year, Las Vegas will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary beginning with this year's New Year's Eve party on Dec. 31. The Centennial will partner with Las Vegas Events to create a special multimedia extravaganza with a historical video projected from hotels and casinos accompanied by a sound track written by Harrah's headliner Clint Holmes and performed by name entertainers.

One ongoing event planned for the whole year is the Las Vegas Walk of Fame. Similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it will be part of the downtown revitalization program with 18-inch bronze gaming chips cemented into the walkways around the area by the Fremont Street Experience. The chips will feature well-known Vegas celebrities, oddball characters and noteworthy people who are part of the city's history. Every month in 2005, eight to ten new gaming chips will be made a permanent part of today's history. In the future, new gaming chips will be added each year.

Many special events are being planned for the rest of the year. You can follow along with the activities and learn about Las Vegas' history by visiting the official Centennial Web site at www.lasvegascentennial.com.

Caesars Entertainment plans to open a 26,000-square-foot luxury automobile dealership named Exotic Cars in the Forum Shops in late October. The two tiered dealership will feature 50 automobiles for sale including a 2003 Ferrari Enzo with a $1.3 million sticker price and a 427 Shelby with only 9,000 original miles that will cost $375,000.

"Bruce in the USA: A Bruce Springsteen Tribute" will hit the stage at The Hideaway Showroom on Sept. 24 and 25 and feature Matt Ryan, a singer with an uncanny resemblance to the real thing. Tickets are $9.99, call 1-866-946-4373 or 702-914-8557.

Canadian-born Ryan has been on stage portraying one of America's rock and roll legends for a little over five years. While still in Canada, touring around Toronto with his band, Bare Bones, Ryan's resemblance to the famous rocker became apparent and he signed on with the world famous, Legends in Concert cast in January 1999. Since then, Ryan has perfected his act and performed as "the boss" in numerous parts of the United States and Canada.

Krave is the new alternative-geared nightclub at the old Ibiza location at Desert Passage. The club's first venture opening this month will be a dance revue called "The Fashionistas" with a cast of 19 dancers performing an erotic fashion show.

Ivan Kane will be bringing his hip Los Angeles club Forty Deuce to Mandalay Bay's The Hotel.

"A Neil Diamond Tribute" starring Jay White at the Riviera indefinitely Sunday through Thursday at 7 p.m. has had a price increase from $39.95 to $49.95 plus tax and fee, call 702-794-9433.

Recording artist Marlene Ricci, also at the Riviera in the Le Bistro Theatre, will return from vacation and reopen her show on Sept. 14.

Lighting and fire recently destroyed two Las Vegas signs. The first was Mr. O'Lucky, the giant Leprechaun that used to be outside FItzgeralds. The sign burned in the Neon Museum's bone yard. The other was the Stardust's three-sided sign on the Strip that was hit by lightning. The best description of the burned damage was to say it looked the inside of a toaster.

The Riviera Comedy Club will welcome the return of multi-faceted screwball Rich Hall and two other comedians Craig Baldo and Harris Peet, Sept. 13-19. Show times are 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $17.95 plus taxes, call 702-794-9433.

Hall is the author of "Sniglets," a five book best-seller series on crazy word definitions, and star of his own cable television comedy show, "Rich Hall's Onion World." After countless appearances on "The Tonight Show," and a year of indenture to "Saturday Night Live," Hall also won an Emmy writing for David Letterman's shows.

Harris Peet is a part-time hockey goalie and does some of the cartoon voices for "Ren And Stimpey" on Nickelodeon.

Without fanfare, Chef Andre Rochat opened his fourth restaurant. His new upscale eatery is Mistral at the Las Vegas Hilton. His other three dining establishments are Alize at the top of the Palms, Andre's French Restaurant at the Monte Carlo and the original Andre's French Restaurant downtown.

Barrick Gaming has plans to open a new Italian restaurant in mid-September called Marco Manetti's. The eatery is being named after Barrick's head food and beverage person Mark Buccher and Magnum PI's Larry Manetti. The wait staff will have acting experience.

Blondies Sports Bar & Grill located at the Desert Passage mall is a new classic sports bar with all-American food. Another highlight is the 35 plasma and big screen televisions. Blondies will carry every big sports game and, in paying homage to the owners' hometown, Blondies will be Las Vegas' home of the Philadelphia Eagles.

From Super Bowl parties to bachelor parties, Blondies features an exclusive VIP Room available for private groups of 12 - 15 people. The room includes five plasma televisions, surround sound, a DVD/VCR player, an X Box, private refrigerator, bottle service and personal wait staff. Blondies is open daily from 11:30 a.m. For information, call 702-737-0444.

Don't you love it; this columnist just discovered the existence of another Strip restaurant that's been around for at least a year. There are a few La Salsa Cantina Mexican Fare restaurants in town and one is located at the Showcase Mall on the Strip next to the M&M's' World and the MGM Grand. It's distinguished by a giant 45-foot Margarita hanging outside the front door.

What's misleading about this cozy place is that the rather small front entrance that opens right onto the bar area actually winds back into a curved cavernous Mexican-themed environment that can accommodate 200 people. There are semi-private dining areas for 12 to 75.

Unknown to most folks, there is a 0.6-acre sliver of land between The Mirage and Treasure Island resorts where you can find the little Villa de Flores apartment complex with 35 occupied residential units. This piece of land in the mid-1990s was the subject of an intense legal battle between its owner and resort developer Steve Wynn, who used to own The Mirage and Treasure Island.

Now plans have been approved by the Clark County Commission for a $15 to $20 million project to be built that will have 148 hotel and timeshare rooms and 168 parking spaces in a split-level, subterranean garage with 3 « levels.

If the deal goes through, the new owners will break ground on the high-rise project next year and open within two years. The plans that have been filed say the structure will be built with colored concrete and glass panels. Guest amenities will include a pool and spa area, recreational uses and a garden area on the roof level.
