SHAQUILLE O’NEAL KICKS OFF COMEDY JAM TOUR

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will kick off his All-Star Comedy Jam Tour at Mandalay Bay on Friday, Sept. 2. The show will feature comedians Bruce Bruce, Gary Owen and Corey Holcomb. Additionally, the performance will be filmed for “All-Star Comedy Jam Backstage,” a reality show produced and distributed by Codeblack Entertainment.

RODNEY CARRINGTON RETURNS TO MGM GRAND

Multi-talented comedian, actor, singer and writer Rodney Carrington will return to the Hollywood Theatre at MGM Grand Oct. 25-30 and Dec. 4-10 at 10 p.m. with his stand-up comedy show. The comedian's performances coincide with the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Finals and the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR), respectively.

Carrington released his debut album “Hangin’ with Rodney” in 1998 and has since recorded seven major record label comedy albums, selling more than three million copies. He starred in his own TV sitcom “Rodney” for two seasons on ABC. In addition, Carrington co-wrote and co-starred with Toby Keith in the feature film “Beer for My Horses.”

Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) will host an Evening of Cabaret with acclaimed singer, actress Lainie Kazan best known for her role in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” at The Lounge at the Palms from 8-10 p.m. Tickets begin at $35, visit www.afanlv.org.

HENDERSON HOSTS MARINE CORPS IRONMAN CHAMPIONSHIP

After five years in Clearwater, Florida, the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) will move one of its most prestigious events, the Marine Corps Ironman World Championship 70.3, to Henderson on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m. at Loews Lake Las Vegas. More than 1,800 domestic and international triathletes will qualify for the race that represents the culmination of more than 50 global qualifying events. Spectator admission is complimentary.

‘FAMOUS VEGAS WEDDING CHAPEL’ OPENS ON STRIP

The new “Famous Vegas Wedding Chapel” that opened at the beginning of this month is in The Gold Key Center near Wynn and Encore on the Strip in a plaza currently undergoing rejuvenation. The location had previously been the site of a wedding chapel, and the adjoining 1,050-square-foot suite, can easily be transformed into a banquet facility.

The chapel currently offers more than 18 different wedding packages - in all price ranges and you can design your own.

BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY PERFORMS AT ORLEANS

Multi-platinum recording artists Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will play their trademark big-band sound at The Orleans Showroom, Sept. 24 and 25. Tickets start from $19.95.

Seven-member Big Bad Voodoo Daddy arrived on the music scene in 1993 with a legendary residency at the Brown Derby Nightclub in Los Angeles. In 1996, the band rocketed to fame after performing two of their songs, “You & Me and the Bottle Makes Three (Tonight)” and “Go Daddy-O,” in the hit movie “Swingers.” Since then, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has performed for three U.S. presidents and at the 1999 Super Bowl halftime show. They have also written theme music for ESPN, “The Carson Daly Show” and “3rd Rock From the Sun.”

PEACE FROG LEAPS INTO HENDERSON WITH DOORS TRIBUTE

Peace Frog, a tribute to The Doors founded 14 years ago will perform at the Henderson Events Plaza on Friday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. and open the fall season of the city's signature series, ArtBeat presented by Target. The free special concert, which comes 40 years following the loss of The Doors' legendary lead vocalist Jim Morrison, honors the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold and platinum albums, as well as sell more than 100 million albums worldwide and to be inducted into, both, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.

PRIMM VALLEY LINES UP NAME ENTERTAINMENT

Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill's in Primm, Nev., is a real good bet for seeing top line headliners at really reasonable prices and it's only a 30 to 40-minute drive from Las Vegas. The new additions to the lineup are: Sept. 10 - Neil McCoy; Oct. 1 - Cheech and Chong; Oct. 15 - Patti LaBelle; Oct. 29 - Eric Church; Nov. 5 - O’Jays; and Nov. 19 - Ezequiel Pena/ Los Caminantes.

Headliners for September include: Paul Anka - Sept. 3; Neil McCoy - Sept. 10; “America's Got Talent” judge Howie Mandel - Sept. 17; and Smokey Robinson - Sept. 24. Prices depending on the show range from $34.95 to $67.95.

VEGAS HAS AWARD WINNING RESORTS

ARIA, the crown jewel of CityCenter, has earned the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award for its Sky Suites, joining an elite class of resorts recognized with two AAA Five Diamond Awards for two distinct hotel experiences within one property.

In its first year of operation in 2010, ARIA was recognized as a AAA Five Diamond resort, a distinction rare for hotels to achieve in such a short time. ARIA Sky Suites consists of 442 Deluxe rooms, suites and villas, all located on the 25th through 59th floors of the South Tower.

Two more MGM Resorts International hotels have been named to the list so far: Sky Lofts at MGM Grand and the Bellagio which received the award for the 11th year in a row.

On the Five Diamond restaurant list, Le Cirque and Picasso at Bellagio, and Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand were honored. The three restaurants are all repeat recipients.

TOP DESIGNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT FORUM SHOPS

The Forum Shops at Caesars and the Art Institute of Las Vegas have conducted a ground-breaking search for “Las Vegas' Best New Designer,“ and the Top 10 Finalists have been chosen. One talented designer will win the title at Fashion's Night Out on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The Top 3 designers will be featured in a special fashion show at The Forum Shops reflecting pool and Caesars Palace headliner Matt Goss will name the winner. Through Aug. 30, the public can vote at www.facebook.com/theforumshops.

High fashion will also hold several fashion shows featuring more than 25 specialty retail partners. HENDERSON PREPARES FOR SUPER RUN CAR SHOW

The City of Henderson announced it will offer complimentary shuttle service to and from this year's Super Run Classic Car Show. The service will be available Sept. 23 and 24 from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., and will run on a continuous loop to three locations. Super Run attracts more than 100,000 people to the Water Street District to see up to 1,000 classic cars, hot rods and vintage vehicles on display, as well as enjoy a variety of full throttle competitions including burn outs and roaring engines contests. Recognized as Southern Nevada's largest car show, Super Run will also include nightly concerts by oldies group The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards and Against the Grain, a popular local country act. Spectator admission is complimentary.

NOVE's CHEF GENO BERNARDO COOKS DOWNTOWN

Chef Geno Bernardo from Nove Italiano at the Palms will kick off the fall season for Project Dinner Table on Saturday, Sept. 10. The popular dinner series will showcase the El Cortez's outdoor event space, the Jackie Gaughan Plaza, and the dinner will benefit The Animal Foundation. Since Project Dinner Table's launch in April 2010, every dinner table has been full.

The next dinner will be Oct. 15 with Chef Rick Moonen at Cashman Field, benefiting Huntridge Teen Clinic & Volunteers in Medicine and the final dinner will take place Sunday, Nov. 13.

Project Dinner Table recently launched the Downtown FEED local farmer's market located at 115 N. 7th Street, right behind the El Cortez every Thursday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand has an all-star lineup including Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Kenny Chesney, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Jane's Addiction, Nicki Minaj, John Mayer, Rascal Flatts and Bruno Mars along with special guest performances by Usher and Sting.

Stone Temple Pilots will return to the Pearl at the Palms with their high-energy live show on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $45 to $100, call 702-944-3200. Stone Temple Pilots, commonly called STP, hit the rock scene in the early ’90s with their debut album “Core.”

On Sept. 11, 343 firefighters and emergency personnel will climb the stairs of the Stratosphere Tower starting at 9 a.m. to honor the 343 firefighters and paramedics killed in the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Each climber will carry a photograph and biographical sketch of a firefighter who died in the 2001 tragedy.

The California Hotel downtown will host an all-you-can-eat buffet and concert with award-winning Hawaiian singer, songwriter Amy Hanaiali’i on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $28 in advance and $33 on show day, call 702-388-2705.

For shoppers who are still looking for Sur La Table at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, the store moved awhile back to the Fashion Show Mall so it is still on the Strip.

RnR Wine's "Bubbles & Chocolate” event is returning on Friday, Sept. 16 for a second year, with six to eight sparkling wines, premium chocolates and pastries by top chefs, and a VIP perch in Moorea Beach Club during OneRepublic's performance on the beach. Tickets are $55.

Famed entrepreneur, Diddy, will host an unparalleled poolside bash to top off Labor Day Weekend at the Palms Pool & Bungalows on Sunday, Sept. 4.

John Varvatos, award-winning men's designer store at the Hard Rock will host a limited-time gallery featuring an elite collection of 40 rock and roll prints captured by local photographer and media personality, Erik Kabik. The unveiling will be on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 6-9 p.m.

Talented members of Disney's Las Vegas production of “The Lion King” will perform “Vegas Vaudeville: Songsters, Hoofers and First-Class Stage Actors” on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 at the Nicholas J. Day of the Dead - Dia De Muertos, an event honoring loved ones who have passed on, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 10 p.m. Altar entries are due by Oct. 6 and will be juried in three categories: traditional, artistic, and non-profit.

HOWARD JONES PERFORMS AT FREMONT STREET

The Fremont Street Experience downtown will offer free entertainment all Labor Day weekend and on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. Howard Jones will put on a free concert. Jones is an English musician who first burst on to the contemporary music scene in 1983 with his first single “New Song.”

1960S REUNION - HERMAN's HERMITS AND THE TURTLES

The Cannery will feature two of the biggest acts from the 1960s; Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone and The Turtles, featuring Flo and Eddie at The Club on Sept. 17. Tickets start at $19.95.

Herman's Hermits and Peter Noone reached international success in 1964 with the single “I’m Into Something Good.” Other hits include “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter,” “I’m Henry The VIII, I Am,” and “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat.” In all, they sold more than 60 million records.

The Turtles was a partnership that started in the high school choir in Los Angeles. The group's success began in 1965 and has continued with Top 20 hits such as “You Baby,” “She’d Rather Be With Me,” “Elenore” and their signature song “So Happy Together.”

FRIGHT DOME AT CIRCUS CIRCUS

Created by “hauntrepreneur” Jason Egan, Fright Dome at Circus Circus has been horrifying more than 60,000 yearly visitors since 2003. Spread throughout five acres, the haunted theme park features dark, fog-filled attractions complete with ghoulish and gore-clad professional actors. In addition, Fright Dome will partner with Compass Films International to theme two of its five haunted houses after the legendary horror film “HALLOWEEN.”

Egan is also working to bring awareness to a newly launched non-profit organization called SCARE (Suspense Community Allocating Relief and Empowerment) Foundation dedicated to alleviating the hardships of poverty and homelessness.

CHATEAU NIGHTCLUB WILL HOST FHM CASTING PARTY

Ladies looking for their big modeling break will have a chance to be featured in FHM at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris on Saturday, Sept. 10. The popular international men's magazine will host an open casting with famed FHM celebrity photographer Laurens Antoine Well-known for its yearly “100 Sexiest Women in the World” countdown, FHM features sexy photo shoots.
