The Pioneer will be hosting its first Guacamole Making Contest on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. The entry fee for a team is $50; call the marketing office at 702-298-2442, ext. 4114. Teams must supply the ingredients and will compete for a $500 cash prize plus a trophy.

The event will be open to the public for a $5 charge that will include all you can eat chips, salsa, a variety of fruits and soft drinks and a chance to sample the guacamole. There will be a bar for purchasing beer and wine.

Showcasing the talents of musicians, comics, impressionists and specialty performers, the Flamingo Laughlin will present "A Really Big Shew, a Tribute to Ed Sullivan" from Sept, 8 to April 11 in the Club Flamingo Showroom. Show times will be 7 and 9 p.m. nightly. Tickets will be $14.95, call 800-435-8469 or 702-298-5111.

Actor Jerry Hoban, best known for his Ed Sullivan role in the motion picture "Pulp Fiction," will portray the late host in this re-creation of the popular "Ed Sullivan Show" that aired on CBS from 1947-1971. The variety show will include Sullivan as the comedic emcee, three specialty acts, one musical act, and Topo Gigio, the Italian mouse. The acts are interspersed with vintage television commercials and commentary from Sullivan.

Performances will run in three-week segments beginning with The Villiams, an international plate spinning and juggling team, comedy ventriloquist Michelle La Fong, Bob Moore's Amazing Mongels - comedy canine troupe, and Neil Diamond performed by Tom Sadge. These acts will play from Sept. 8 through Nov. 28.

The plate spinning and juggling duo known as the "The Villiams" was originally featured on the "Ed Sullivan Show" as a kids act. The Hungarian born husband and wife team have performed with this show for the last four years.

Parrot, a Jimmy Buffett Tribute band will be playing at the River Palms' pool on Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. through Labor Day Weekend.

The world famous "Les Folies Bergere" is licensed by Folies in Paris. It is the longest running production show in Las Vegas history and it will appear in Laughlin for one night only, Thursday, Sept. 11. Tickets are $19.00 per person, call 1-800-AGENT46.

By courtesy of the Tropicana in Las Vegas, part of the tantalizing ensemble will ignite the stage of the Ramada Express Pavilion Theater with two topless shows at 7 and 9 p.m.

"Les Folies Bergere" has never appeared anywhere outside of Paris except at the Tropicana. It is only by special permission of its sister property that the Ramada Express will be able to present this rare opportunity to view vignettes straight from the world famous show. The troupe will include showgirls, dancers and comedian, Geechy Guy.

The 2003 Margarita Fiesta & 10K Giveaway, a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club, will be presented at the River Palms Special Event Center on Friday, Sept. 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The fiesta margarita contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $45 or reserve a VIP table for 10 for $450, call Dave Heath at 928-763-1411.

The Watch Man shop at the Riverside holds a daily "Watch-An-Hour Giveaway." All kinds of watches including Elgin and Seikos worth $250, souvenir Watch Man mugs, caps, rings and sunglasses are given away every day from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Saturdays. The drawings are every hour on the hour.

No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. The only requirements are that participants must be present to win and be over 18 years of age.

The second annual golf tournament benefiting the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce is set for Aug. 30 at the Mojave Resort Golf Club, adjacent to the Avi resort. Organizers estimate $10,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to placing teams. The entry fee is $100 per player and that covers green fees, golf cart, gift bag, team buy-in, skins and lunch. The format is a four-person scramble. For information, call 702-535-4653.

The Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series will present the world's best professional cowboys riding the rankest bulls at the Laughlin Events Center on Sept. 12 and 13. Both nights the competition will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $22 to $52 and are $9 for kids ages 12 and younger. For tickets and information, call 702-298-2214.

The Dance Studio is located on the second floor of the north tower next to Bingo Paradise at the Riverside. Instructors Tom and Sharon Craddock hold dances classes for a variety of dances on a regular basis. Some of the pre-scheduled instruction classes include a beginner's class for ballroom, Latin and country swing on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and an intermediate class for ballroom, Latin and country western on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. A beginning class for west coast swing will begin on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m.

For a taste of what the Craddocks and their dance classes are all about, the couple holds "dance practice parties" in The Dance Club each month.

Tom Craddock has 25 years of teaching experience and is a certified instructor with many levels of expertise. He has received many dance awards as well as Top Teacher with the Arthur Murray organization.

Sharon Craddock has 25 years of training and teaching group exercise classes and holds an aerobics and fitness certification.
