Comedian David Brenner is the first performer booked for a one-year, 44-week engagement at The Westin Casuarina property opening in September. Brenner will perform a 90-minute, solo concert nightly at 8 p.m. in the hotel's new 250-seat showroom. Tickets will be $50 plus tax.
The former Maxim Hotel was purchased for about $38 million last fall and has undergone a $90 million remodeling project. The new casually elegant resort will feature 825 rooms, a 20,000-square-foot casino with 300 slot machines and about 10 table games, a restaurant, room service, Starbucks coffee shop, gym, swimming pool and 15,000 square feet of meeting space. It will be the first Westin resort nationwide to feature a casino and also be the first Westin in Nevada.
The highlight of the new resort will no doubt be the "Heavenly Bed," a bedroom concept for which the hotel chain is known. The trademarked bed that can even be bought from a catalogue features a Simmons mattress, high-thread-count cotton sheets, five pillows and a duvet.
The Westin Casuarina's rooms will have a minimalist, modern look, with suede window shades, chrome touches and perks such as Starbucks coffee and Internet access. The style is being called "modern luxury." The hotel takes its name from a tree that is native to the Cayman Islands.
