On Aug. 1, the $80 million 435,000-square-foot Las Vegas Premium Outlets will open for business, and add to Las Vegas' reputation as a premier shopping destination. The new mall is located at 875 So. Grand Central Parkway just east of the I-15 freeway and north of Charleston Blvd. The project will include more than 120 name-brand outlet stores. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and until 9 p.m. on Sundays. For information, call 702-474-7500.
Park Place Entertainment has announced that it will change its company name to Caesars Entertainment, Inc. The name change is to better capitalize on the Caesars Palace brand name.
Ironically many other name changes are happening around town at the same time. The Aladdin is converting to Planet Hollywood, Treasure Island is reinventing itself as TI, the Lady Luck is getting reborn as Park Plaza Lady Luck, Le Reve is being renamed Wynn Las Vegas, and the Maxim is reopening as the Westin Casuarina.
Las Vegas had two drinking and dining establishments open at the same time with two entirely different themes and locations.
The Ice House Lounge is a restaurant and gaming venue located Downtown at 650 So. Main Street. The $5 million free standing, two-story building has been constructed on the historic and original icehouse site that served the city of Las Vegas and the Union Pacific Railroad with ice for refrigeration purposes.
The exterior art-deco design of the Ice House Lounge is reminiscent of South Beach, Miami, with white stucco and stainless accents. Outside patios are featured on both levels along with a 36-foot glass sheet with flowing water cascading into a pool.
The interior is accented with large, retrospective photographs of old Downtown Las Vegas, retro furniture from the 1960's, stainless steel and a subdued lime green color scheme throughout the dining and lounge areas. A floating staircase serves as an entrance into the upstairs lounge, which features a second frozen ice bar. Food service at the Ice House Lounge is 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Nine Fine Irishmen is an authentic two-story Irish pub designed and built by the best of Ireland's craftsmen and shipped directly to Las Vegas. The 9,000-square-foot restaurant at New York-New York features Victorian bars, cottage areas and shop style snugs. It is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and craic, which is Irish for fun.
The Palms will feature 3 Doors Down, Our Lady Peace and Seethe performing a special show at The Palms' Skin Pool Lounge on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $32.50 and $37.50 on the day of the show, call 702-474-4000.
The debut release from 3 Doors Down, "The Better Life," has sold over six million units world wide and spawned three No. 1 rock singles. Singer / actress Olivia Newton-John will perform with a 20-piece orchestra at Paris Las Vegas, Aug. 14-17 at 9 p.m. Working in the entertainment industry for nearly 40 years, this multi-talented Aussie is perhaps best known for her starring role and hit songs in the movie, "Grease" with John Travolta.
While "Grease" remains the most popular movie musical soundtrack in history, Newton-John has earned many accolades in her solo career as well, including four Grammys and several Country Music Awards. Renowned designated Steinway pianist David Osborne is celebrating the release of his 18th album, "Always and Forever," which features 17 of the greatest love songs of all times. Osborne is called the "Pianist to the Presidents" because he has preformed at the White House and throughout the country for former presidents Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton. He was the featured pianist in Caesars former Palace Court restaurant, and now he performs Wednesday through Sunday at Cafe Lago.

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay will open his first restaurant outside Manhattan in the spring of 2004. It will be the Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace.

The Silverton located off I-15 at Blue Diamond Road has opened its Twin Creeks steakhouse. The restaurant's interior is designed to reflect the hotel's switch to an outdoor-lodge theme, in keeping with the future Bass Pro Shops opening. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority visitor center off I-15 in Jean, Nev. will be moving to Primm in August. It will be located at the California / Nevada border in a remodeled building housing a Las Vegas Collectible Cafe that was formerly a Denny's restaurant.
NBC's upcoming series "Las Vegas," will be shooting in town from July 30 through Aug. 6. "Malcolm in the Middle" is also planning an August location visit.
The Stardust will feature free Friday Night Jazz Concerts in the main showroom on Aug. 1, 8, and Sept. 19. The acts in order are Keith Martin, David Van Such and IN 2 IT.
"Splash" at the Riviera has launched a new and improved version of the standard web site. The revamped site highlights new graphics, images and color scheme complementing the show's new ad campaign. Web site features also include flash, contests, a photo gallery, video, reviews and features, cast profiles and direct online ticketing.

Dirk Arthur's "New Art of Magic" show at the Silverton has closed. Word is Arthur is close to a deal with a downtown property. Meanwhile the Silverton will be using the showroom for concerts.
The Castaways located on Boulder Highway recently renovated a bingo room into a special events center in order to host concerts such as Freddy Fender a couple days ago. The new room will feature Monti Rock III periodically acting as an emcee for a roster of doo-wop acts starting on July 31 and returning on Labor Day weekend. The colorful Rock was the deejay in "Saturday Night Fever," a favorite guest on Johnny Carson's show, and the front man for Disco Tex & the Sex-O-Lettes.
Harrah's recently announced the lineup for its 2nd annual Carnaval Court free concert series, kicking off this summer on August 7.
The five concert series offers an eclectic lineup: soulful songstress CeCe Peniston on Aug. 7; dance club diva Crystal Waters on Aug. 14; hip-hop's Rob Base with DJ EZ Rock and DJ Kool on Aug. 21; international sensations C & C Music Factory featuring Freedom Williams on Aug. 28 and Jade Starling with Lisa Lisa on Sept. 1.

The Fremont is bringing the "good ole days" back to Downtown Las Vegas with its latest entertainment presentation, Robbie Howard's star-studded "Jump, Jive, An' Wail" in the intimate Aloha Cabaret.
Howard has been a performer since the '80s when he produced dinner theater in southern California. He came to Las Vegas in 1991 and was featured in Mickey Finn's Dixieland show at downtown's Main Street Station. Next he created "Hurray America," a revue that ran from 1993-99 until he opened his successful "Stars of the Strip," which brought him back downtown.
Howard's show is a musical trip down memory lane as he and his trio of musicians run the gamut of entertainers from the ever-popular Elvis to the eclectic mix of Jimmy Buffett, Ray Charles, and Barry Manilow.
The Tropicana has introduced "Star Struck," a new entertainment store near the main entrance that offers several items relating to the shows appearing at the hotel. Some examples include plush white tigers from "The Magic of Rick Thomas," original art from the "Folies Bergere," and an instructional juggling kit, which includes juggling balls similar to the ones used by Wally Eastwood, the star of the "Folies Bergere." Other items available for purchase include Las Vegas souvenirs such as t-shirts, water globes, and historical material.
Additionally, customers have the opportunity to have their photo taken with one of the Tropicana celebrities. From 11:00 a.m. to midnight daily, guests may pose with featured stars such as Tiana Carroll of the "Tropicana Bird Show," Rick Thomas of the "The Magic of Rick Thomas," showgirls from the "Folies Bergere," and Chris and Jon, the boys from the high-flying act in "Air Play."
