Australia's "Thunder From Down Under" makes an annual summer stop in Las Vegas. This year they are appearing at the New Frontier with shows nightly except Tuesday at 9 p.m. and additional 11:30 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday nights. The word is the musical "Chicago" will be moving into the Venetian's C2K Showroom for a six month run. The trick on this second go around in Las Vegas as a headlining show is to cut it down to 90 minutes instead of the 2 hour-45 minute production with intermission that ran at Mandalay Bay.
Stand-up comic/ventriloquist John Pizzi will perform at the Riviera Comedy Club on July 20 and 21 as part of KXTE's XXXtreme Comedy Showcase. The special "adults only" showcases are held every third weekend of the month at the Riviera. Tickets are $14 plus tax, call 702-794-9433.
Pizzi has been described as "Don Rickles with a Dummy." The New Yorker brings his wooden sidekick, Andy, along to help provide his observations on life comedy.
Comedienne Paula Poundstone's July 28 appearance at Sunset Station has been postponed until further notice.
World Championship K-1, the world's premier fighting sport, will return to the Bellagio when the K-1 World Grand Prix Semi-finals take place in the resort's Grand Ballroom on Saturday, Aug. 11. Founded in 1993, K-1 has become the world's ultimate fighting sport. The "K" comes from the first letter of the various styles of martial arts such as Karate, Kung Fu and Tae Kwondo.
Comedic country singer Milo Tremley will take center stage along with three fellow comedians at the Riviera Comedy Club for a week beginning on Monday, July 30. Tickets are$16.95 plus taxes with two drinks included, call 702-794-9433.
Tremley covers a broad range of talents. He is a parody singer, a fiddler and guitarist, and a cowboy-favorite comedian. His music has been recorded for posterity on a tape entitled, "Where Men Are Men." He's opened for many major stars including Charlie Daniels, the Beach Boys, Charley Pride, Blue Oyster Cult and Lou Rawls.
The All-American SportsPark on Sunset Road off Las Vegas Blvd. has reopened as the Sports Center. The batting cages called Slugger Stadium are open from 4-9 p.m., Mondays, Wednesday and Thursday and from noon to 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The 22,000-square-foot Seven nightclub and restaurant will open this summer on the Strip at the former Country Star restaurant. The new owners are spending $3 million on renovations that will include building a patio, a 6-foot-tall waterfall and fire torches. The facility will seat 750 diners.
Rebble Jackson will make her Las Vegas lounge debut in the Windjammer Lounges at the Castaways (formerly the Showboat). A member of the famous Jackson family, Rebble Jackson will be performing July 19-21 and 26-29, at 8 and 10 p.m.
The Flamingo's 550-seat Paradise Garden Buffet overlooks the resort's Wildlife Habitat and arboretum and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The buffet has new names, times and menu changes.
The Champagne Breakfast served from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. includes a glass of champagne with a selection from 60 breakfast items. Cost is $8.75 pus tax. Lunch is the Flamingo Brunch served from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It includes a full breakfast buffet with a large variety of brunch favorites for $9.95 plus tax.
The Steak & Seafood Buffet features over 100 culinary items from 4:30 to 10 p.m. The new dinner buffet has added rib eye steak, honey glazed duck, baked pork chop cutlets with Maui onions and steamed crab legs to the menu. Price is $14.95 plus tax.
Caesars Palace recently completed new facades for three of its original hotel towers, constructed a 49,000-square-foot interim event pavilion, launched two new restaurants and remodeled 600 hotel rooms.
Currently, the casino is completing two new poolside villa suites and a new high-limit gaming salon.
Other plans call for a 29-story all-suite hotel tower to be built. When completed, the mega-Strip resort will feature about 900 suites and mini-suites, and bring the total room count to 3,350 rooms.
Funnyman Rich Vos will lead a trio of comedians at The Improv Comedy Club at Harrah's, Aug. 7-12. Vos delivers anecdotes based on real-life experiences. Tickets are $24.95 plus tax for the 8 and 10 p.m. shows.
Vos is no stranger to television and he's an accomplished writer, with articles appearing in "Glamour" magazine. He's also a screenwriter with credits on both Comedy Central's "Roasts" and Fox promos for "Action."
The girls of "La Femme," Las Vegas' Crazy Horse Revue at the MGM Grand visited Siegfried and Roy's show at The Mirage. When the master illusionists visited Paris, the first show they attended was the Crazy Horse Revue.
