Starting with his first hit release Roses Are Red in 1962 through 1972, Vinton had more No. 1 records than any other solo male artist. His hit songs over the years have become classics such as: Blue Velvet, Mr. Lonely and the Polish American national anthem My Melody of Love. Vinton has been awarded more than a dozen gold records and albums during his career and has sold more than 75 million records.
For three years, The Bobby Vinton Variety Show was syndicated and aired in more than 140 cities throughout the United States and Canada. He also hosted a highly rated network variety special for CBS Television that triumphed over Monday Night Football and starred in two John Wayne movies: Big Jake and The Train Robbers. Vinton went on to create his own 1,600-seat European-style theater while he was performing in Branson, Mo.
A multi-talented musician as well as singer and actor, Vinton was born in a suburb of Pittsburgh and the son of a locally popular band leader, Stan Vinton. At age 16, he formed his first band and with the money he earned financed his college education and graduated with a degree in Musical Composition. In addition, he became proficient on all of the instruments in the band (piano, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, drums and the oboe), which is a talent he displays in his shows today.
