The Prize Patrol will be handing out $10,000 in cash and prizes to randomly selected slot and video players June 16-25, July 20-29 and Aug. 18-27. There's a better chance of winning by playing with a Club Belle card inserted.
As an added courtesy for slot players at the Pioneer Hotel & Gambling Hall, the resort offers "machine shut downs" for varying lengths of time. The shut downs give players an opportunity to get more money, use the restroom and even get something to eat, without giving up a favorite machine.
To be eligible for the "shutdown policy," a guest must have played the machine for at least two hours before it will be shut down. The guest may have two shut downs each day and the combined time for both shut downs may not exceed two hours. The shutdown policy is not available on certain holidays and special event weekends.
For more information on the Pioneer's "do not disturb" or "machine shutdown policy" stop by the resort and ask a slot attendant.
Getting around the Ramada Express resort's 27-acre complex is easy and fun since it's Laughlin's only property with a working railroad. Resplendent in polished brass and handsome Victorian lines, "Old No. 7," also aptly known as "The Gambler," is a narrow gauge replica of the steam engine "Genoa," which hauled freight and riders through western Nevada 100 years ago.
While the engine itself is a replica because it's designed to run on much cleaner diesel instead of burning wood, the trappings around it are all authentic railroad equipment.
The Gambler takes passengers on almost a mile trip from Casino Station to the parking areas where you find Mohave Station, then Pavilion Station before returning to Casino Station.
For the 13th year, Nevada will celebrate "Free Fishing Day" on Saturday, June 10. This means residents and non-residents alike have the opportunity to enjoy a day of fishing in Nevada without purchasing a state fishing license, or trout stamp.
Anglers are reminded that although the fishing license and trout stamp are not required to fish on June 10, all other laws and regulations apply, includiing limits, bait and tackle restrictions, and area closures as printed in the fishing seasons and regulations brochure. For information, contact the Nevada Division of Wildlife 702-486-5127 or visit www.state.nv.us/cnr/nvwildlife/.
