In the midst of their 2003 tour across the nation, Grand Funk Railroad is set to hit the stage in the Flamingo Ballroom on Saturday, June 28, at 8 p.m.

Grand Funk Railroad's musical journey continues full steam ahead, more than 30 years after their start in Flint, Mich., with the release of their box-set "Thirty Years of Funk, The Anthology, " and such hits as "Some Kind of Wonderful," "Locomotion," and their signature song "We're An American Band." The latter has become a rock anthem that was featured in General Motor's 2003 national ad campaign and highlighted in Disney's 2002 animated feature film "The Country Bears."

The group has 13 Gold and 10 Platinum records, 19 charted singles, eight Top 40 hits and two number one singles. Tickets are priced at $24.95 and $29.95, call 800-435-8469 or 702-298-5111.

The Four Freshmen will perform in the Pavilion Theater at the Ramada Express from June 14-17. Tickets for the 8 p.m. shows are $15 per person.

Ever since the group's beginning in the 1950s, the quartet has set themselves apart from other groups by performing high-level vocal jazz harmonies while acting as their own rhythm section. The Four Freshmen play guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, trombone and trumpet. Along with jazz, the group handles swing and ballads with equal ease and style.

The group's career was started by a chance encounter with famed musician Stan Kenton, who led them to Capitol Records, where they recorded a string of million-selling hits including "Day By Day," "It's A Blue World," and "How Can I Tell Her." Getting your kicks on "Route 66" and revisiting the 1950s with "Graduation Day" have put the group's indelible mark on music history.

Don Laughlin's Riverside and Bu-La Productions will present "Country Music USA" from June 14 through September 21.

In addition, the resort is offering a special room, dinner and "Country Music USA" show package for $89. The deal includes a room for two for two nights, dinner for two at the buffet, two tickets to see "Country Music USA" and two free nights between December 1-24, 2003 and January 1-8, 2004. For reservations, call 800-227-3849 and ask for your Country Music USA Room, Dinner and Show Package.

The tribute show features country star impersonators portraying the likes of Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, The Judds and Patsy Cline.

"Country Music USA" is performed nightly except Fridays at 8 p.m. and at 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Tickets are $22.

The Event Center located between the Colorado Belle and the Edgewater has laughs scheduled featuring Catch A Rising Star comedy club comedians in June and July. Bobby Slayton will lead the way on Thursday, June 19, followed by Jeffrey Ross on June 26, Dean Edwards and Mark Theobald on July 10, and Jake Johannsen on July 24. Tickets for the 7 p.m. shows are $15 and $20.

Harrah's will giveaway $5000 in total prize money during the resort's SummerFiesta Slot Tournaments being held June 9-13. Customers may enter for $10 per person, per session or earn free entries by hitting any hand-paid jackpot on slots or video poker. In order to participate, entrants must be Total Reward members.

The tournament sessions will be played daily, and the top ten scores of the day will participate in the final session at 4 p.m. for $1000 cash. The prize pool is broken down as follows: first place $350, second place $200, third place $100 and 4th place through 10th $50 each. Players may enter as many times as they wish.

Two interactive dinner theater shows are planned at the River Palms this month. The first is "The Sopranos Last Supper" on June 14, followed by "Jimmy and Jenny's Wacky Western Wedding" on June 28. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the shows. Tickets are $24.99 with a Players' Club card and $29.99 without one.

Tarzan's features live Main lobster at the Lobster Bar as well as rib eye and filet carved at the table, Wednesday through Sunday, from 5 to 9 p.m.

After dinner, Tarzan's Nightclub starts at 10 p.m. and features state-of-the-art sound, a dance floor and a variety of dance bands and entertainment.

A popular access point to Lake Mohave is Katherine Landing, located 10 miles south of Laughlin.

For fishermen, licenses are available in the 51-unit Lake Mohave Resort's tackle and bait shop. Anglers can seek rainbow trout, largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill.

At the marina, fishing, house and ski boats are available for rent by the hour, day or week. Also at the marina is the Pelican's Perch Lounge and Tale O' the Whale restaurant with a view.

Other outdoor options for visitors are secluded beaches for camping and an RV park with full hookups close to the lake.

Just about 10 miles northwest of Laughlin off Hwy 163 is a quiet place called Grapevine Canyon where you can find Native American petroglyphs. The canyon was named for the abundant wild grape plants to be found in the area. You have to turn off on two miles of gravel road to reach the parking lot near the trail to the rock paintings.
