The Gator Days Wild Adventure 2000 will start at the Colorado Belle on Friday, May 26. The summer-long celebration features visits by wild animal stars of television and movies.

Beginning on May 26, the Gator Days mascots reappear. They are seven toothy American alligators displayed in a specially designed habitat located on the "D" deck of the Colorado Belle. Next to the gators, in their own patio house are two truly enormous snakes. The snakes and gators will remain on display daily through Sept. 4, except times for cleaning and animal care.

Between June 27 and July 29, cuddly lion cubs will have their own special area on "D" deck. The cubs will make limited daytime appearances with their trainer. Times and days will be posted.

Harry the Chimpanzee will ham it up in a custom designed playhouse from Aug. 1-Sept. 3. You can have your picture taken with the chimp. Pictures will be $5 each at the photo booth next to Harry's playhouse. Harry's public appearances and photo ops will take place during limited daytime hours and that also will be posted.

The Edgewater's Grand Buffet began a new offering this weekend with steak and shrimp served from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. for $7.99. There are four different ways to have the steak - Philly style, teriyaki, carne asada or traditional charbroiled. The shrimp selections are - shrimp scampi, peel and eat, coconut shrimp salad or breaded and fried. For future buffets, other styles of steak and shrimp will be presented. Baked potato with all the trimmings also are served.

The Buffet Plus for $2 more offers a generous portion of prime rib or a half-pound serving of Alaskan crab legs. The Grand Buffet has three 60-foot serving lines offering more than 55 items and seats over 500 guests.

The Flamingo Hilton began a bargain meal program last year when it introduced its $1.99 hamburger for a limited time. The inexpensive meal proved to be such a success that it paved the way for more low-priced meal deals including the $1.99 T-bone steak and pasta special served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday though Wednesday, in the Diner and the 99-cent omelet offering in the Diner, Monday through Friday, between 7 and 11 a.m.

There are more food specials. The Flamingo Diner T-bone breakfast special is available from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., Friday through Wednesday, and includes a T-bone steak with two eggs cooked to order, hash brown potatoes and toast for $1.99.

The $1.99 late night breakfast buffet is available in the Flamingo Diner every Thursday during the graveyard shift. Free wine or beer is available while dining in the Fruit Basket Buffet between 4 and 10 p.m. Another big value is the 30-ounce T-bone steak dinner with salad served in the Beef Baron between 9 and 11 p.m. nightly. The cost is $9.99.

The Pioneer has expanded its "double jackpot" offering for slot payers to include live keno play. To participate, keno players must fill out a special keno ticket and the last number called (a flashing number) must be the final number the player needs to complete a solid spot keno. If this happens, the player will win double the jackpot. Tickets start at $1.25 and players can play any multiple of $1.25.

The Avi Resort & Casino offers a $10 launch pass with beach privileges included. For information, call 1-800-430-0721, ext. 5596.

The Golden Nugget is giving its customers the "shirts off their backs." The new program began May 10, and gives players who are members of the free players club, the 24 Kara Club, an opportunity to take home not only a cash jackpot, but also a nice embroidered shirt or a summer cooler bag while supplies last.

Winners receive one ticket for each jackpot lockout handpay of $200 or more on video poker and reel machines. With the ticket and handpaid jackpot, players can redeem the embroidered shirt or summer cooler bag. For more information visit the resort's website at www.gnlaughlin.com.

The Avi is heating up with its weekly summer specials including "Ladies Night" and "Boot Scootin' Thursday."

For "Ladies Night," ladies drink for free every Wednesday night in the ArrowWeed Lounge. Free beer and selected cocktails are served to all ladies in attendance between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Other specials include 49-cent draft beer, 75-cent bottled domestic beer and $1 imported beer specials. There is also free food from 8:30 - 9:30 p.m.

"Boot Scootin' Thursday" revolves around the country theme. KFLG 102.7 FM oversees the contests and drawings for cash and prizes. The party is held from 6 to 9 p.m. with dance lessons from 6 to 7 p.m. Free food is served from 7 to 8 p.m.

There is no cover charge or drink minimum to attend the Avi's summer events in the ArrowWeed Lounge and there's free nightly entertainment.
