Singer, songwriter, actor and human rights activist, and now novelist, Judy Collins, will perform at the Ramada Express on April 13 and 14. Tickets for the 8 p.m. shows are $22.50 per person.

Most people remember Collins much as she appears today with a slight build, long hair and a serious, contemplative expression on her face. Some of Collin's songs include "Someday Soon," "Where or When," and her signature tune "Send In The Clowns."

Stand-up comedian, television and movie star, Sinbad, will take the stage on April 21 at Harrah's Rio Vista Outdoor Amphitheater to tell real-life stories in his manic and high-energy style. Sinbad's comedy is suitable for the entire family. Tickets for his 8 p.m. show are $30, $35 and $40, call1-800-447-8700 or 702-298-8510.

Classic jazz and rock band, Blood, Sweat and Tears, will head to Harrah's during the Laughlin River Run weekend to perform one show on April 27. Tickets are $23 and $28.

The Second Annual Battle of the Bands will take place at the Colorado Belle on Saturday, April 20. The event will take place outdoors from 1 to 5 p.m. in the "Center Circle" area located west of the casino's main entrance.

Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be offered to the band winners. Prize money will be paid through third place. Prizes will include an lbanez electric guitar from Bump City Music in Lake Havasu City, recording time at Pro-Tracks of Lake Havasu City, and cash.

On April 20, the bands will play outdoors before a panel of judges. In addition, the audience will have a chance to vote for their favorite by casting ballots for the "People's Choice" award.

"Joey & Maria Comedy Italian Wedding " dinner show is being extended on many Saturday nights at the River Palms. The theatrical event is performed in the Crystal Sands Room at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $19.99 with the resort's players club card and $24.90 without, call 1-800-835-7904. The upcoming Saturdays include April 13, 20, May 4, 25 and June 8, 15, 22 and 29.

The Colorado Belle has reopened the newly remodeled Mark Twain's Chicken, Ribs and Steaks restaurant that features barbecued baby-back pork ribs and chicken. Chefs have enhanced the menu with extraordinary steaks, enormous barbecued shrimp, fresh seafood and tantalizing appetizers. It's on the "D" deck and open from 4 p.m. Friday through Tuesday.

Bowling is always a fun entertainment option on the second floor of Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort. The 34 Riverside Lanes are open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday, and from 7 a.m. until 2 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. For information, call 702-298-2535.

Another attraction at the Riverside is the Classic Car Collection. Two showrooms, one along Casino Drive and the other in the South Tower on the third floor, feature more than 70 classic and rare automobiles from Don Laughlin's private collection, along with antique slot machines. The Classic Car Collection is open daily and there is no charge.

The Avi is featuring a chance to win a 2002 Thunderbird convertible in a drawing on Tuesday, April 30. Drawing tickets may be earned with every hand-paid jackpot or fill, a straight or better on a Let It Ride table game, any blackjack on a live "21" table, one hour of tracked craps play, $5 or more keno winner, and winners in the 5 Buck Bingo sessions. For information, call 1-800-430-0721 ext. 3559.

Sometimes we forget how many rooms Laughlin has to offer. The biggest resort is the Flamingo Laughlin with 1,900 guestrooms including 60 junior suites. The smallest is the 100-room Bay Shore Inn that Barbara Marks opened in 1992, without a casino. A couple more small properties include the Golden Nugget with 304 rooms and the Pioneer with 414 rooms.

Don Laughlin's Riverside has 1,401 rooms in two towers with a showroom for top name celebrities. The 25-story River Palms Resort has 1,003-rooms. The resort's new look was unveiled in the fall of 1998. Harrah's Laughlin has 1,658 rooms in three towers.

Two properties owned and operated by the Mandalay Resort Group include the 1,446-room Edgewater and the Colorado Belle with 1,219 rooms and suites. The Colorado Belle is most noticeable because the hotel-casino is shaped like a paddle wheel vessel from the 19th century world of old New Orleans.

The Ramada Express with 1,501 rooms promotes a railroad theme with a steam locomotive shuttling customers from the hotel to the parking lot. Even the swimming pool is shaped like a locomotive.
