Rap-metalist Kid Rock will appear in concert with his North American "Rock and Roll Pain Train Tour" at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on April 17. Tickets are $30, $40 and $65 plus tax, call 702-632-7580.

Rock and his Twisted Brown Tucker Band are touring in support of his self-titled album "Kid Rock." He began performing at age 15 and released his first album "Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast" in 1990. The album helped define Rock's bad-boy attitude and was a stepping stone for the 1998 release, "Devil Without a Cause," featuring the single, "Cowboy." His third album "Cocky" in 2001 had "Picture," a ballad with Sheryl Crow that crossed both the pop and country charts.

The Trick Art Museum located at the Tower Shops in the Stratosphere is the first of its kind in the United States. Trick Art originates from Japan and the concept is to use techniques that transform ordinary flat paintings into "living" three-dimensional artwork. It's an expansion of the French concept trompe l'oeil, which means "to trick the eye."

Contemporary founder Kazumune Kenju opened the first Trick Art Museum in Tokyo in 1991. The company has grown to 17 museums with over 1.2 million visitors a year.

Over 30 works of art are on display in the 2,500-square foot area. Visitors are allowed to touch the paintings and encouraged to take photographs. The museum opens at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for children under 12.

Barrick Gaming is the prospective buyer of four hotel-casinos downtown - the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, Western and Gold Strike. The company is planning on getting aboard what they believe to be a pending downtown renaissance with most of the properties having new owners.

Numerous plans requiring multi-million investments are probable proposals. The different ideas could help energize the area.

The brick front of the Las Vegas Club facing Fremont Street could be town down and replaced with an open-air feel. A deck may be built across Main Street to connect the Las Vegas Club to the Plaza. The walkway would tie the properties together and create a 1,500-room resort with two themes.

Build a 1,200-room hotel tower expansion next to the Plaza's south tower, converting it into a U-shaped building, and build a separate 1,200-room time share tower on top of the planned downtown intermodal transportation building.

Later plans may include redeveloping the Western using six square blocks surrounding the property to build a first-class Latino-themed property. Barrick may also buy the Nevada Club and Queen of Hearts hotel properties on Main Street, refurbishing and reopen them.

World renown magician and illusionist David Copperfield will return to the MGM Grand's intimate 740-seat Hollywood Theatre, April 1-14, with his latest stage production, "An Intimate Evening Of Grand Illusion." He'll perform 7:30 and 10 p.m. shows and 3 p.m. matinees on April 3, 11 and 11. Tickets are $97 inclusive for night shows and $79.90 for matinees, call 800-929-1111 or 702-891-7777.

Copperfield has performed seven times for presidents of the United States, been inducted into the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame, and won dozens of Emmy Awards. The New York Times calls him "our era's giant of magic," and he is touting his latest show as his most spectacular one ever.

During each performance, Copperfield transports himself and a member of the audience from the stage over the audience's heads to a deserted island on the other side of the planet and takes proof during his journey. Items are randomly collected from audience members: clothing, distinctive mementos and signed and dated Polaroid photographs of the audience. Within seconds, travel is complete and they are seen on a live satellite uplink at their chosen destination wearing the items of clothes, carrying the personal mementos and holding the signed photograph.

Copperfield's encore for the evening is a groundbreaking illusion where 13 members of the audience, chosen at random, vanish from the stage and reappear in the back of the theater.

Well-known standup Max Alexander will headline the Harrah's Improv Comedy Club with feature comic and rising star, Suzanne Whang and host comic, Jeff Capri, March 23-28. Performances are at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets for the 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. shows are $24.95 plus tax.

Alexander is familiar to many through his wide variety of acting roles including parts in the films "Punchline," "Roxanne" and "Man on the Moon" and on television in "The Practice," "Pearl" and "Matlock."

Whang, winner of the "Best Up & Coming Comedian" award at the 2002 "Las Vegas Comedy Festival," is currently the host of "House Hunters," the number one rated show on HGTV (Home & Garden Television Network). She is an accomplished actor having appeared on numerous television shows including "The Practice," "NYPD Blue," and "The Chronicle" and in recent feature films "Along Came Polly" with Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston, "Housesitter" with Steve Martin, and the upcoming "Twice As Dead" and "Date for Disaster."
