The musical "Fiddler on the Roof," based on the short story "Tevye and His Daughters" by Sholom Aleichem, will play at the Pavilion Theater at the Ramada Express, March 1-7. Tickets are $15 per person.
"Fiddler on the Roof" was one of the first musicals to defy Broadway's established rules of commercial success by dealing with serious issues such as persecution, poverty, and the struggle to hold on to one's beliefs in the midst of a hostile environment. Criticized at first for its limited appeal, "Fiddler on the Roof" struck such a universal chord in audiences that it became, for a time, the longest running production in the history of Broadway. The show originally opened on Sept. 22, 1964 with Zero Mostel in the leading role and ran for 3,242 performances at the Imperial Theatre.
Set in 1905, this classic musical revolves around a dairyman and his struggle to preserve his family's traditions in a changing world. His daughter's love for a poor tailor puts her at odds with her father. Some of the show's hit songs are "If I Were A Rich Man," "Sunrise, Sunset," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker."
The Colorado Belle will host its 4th Annual Battle of the Bands Saturday, April 17. The bands will play before a panel of judges and compete for over $2,000 in cash and prizes that will be awarded to winners through third place. In addition, members of the audience will have a chance to vote for their favorite band by casting ballots for the "People's Choice" award. A variety of stadium food and beverages will be available.
To enter the event, bands must submit a current cassette tape or CD and a current band photo or video by noon on March 29 to: Colorado Belle Battle of the Bands, c/o Lucky 98, 1531 Jill Way, Suite 5, Bullhead City, AZ 86442. All band members must be 21 or older. All entries must be labeled with the band's name, contact person and a daytime phone number and entry materials will not be returned.
